CHS Viking News
June 6, 2018
Dear Viking Families,
The school year is almost over. Can it be?
This has been an academic year filled with events that have challenged us but have also brought us closer. We would like to thank our families and patrons for their amazing and ongoing encouragement throughout the year. We could not have done our job without the continued effort and support you gave to this school.
Our Viking volunteers involve themselves in so many of the behind the scenes activities such as registration, concessions, graduation, ticket taking, fundraising, testing, the Coeur Closet, athletics, senior project, assisting in the classrooms or office and more. We appreciate and sincerely thank all our volunteers for the countless hours they gave to our students and our school.
CHS is extremely proud of our seniors and wish them well in their endeavors! We can’t wait to hear their future stories and we will long remember their accomplishments, leadership and…yes…their pranks.
As we close this year and begin to plan for next, we wish all Viking families a safe and relaxing summer.
Respectfully,
Coeur d’ Alene High School Administrative Team

Graduation Information
GRADUATION TICKETS
- The deadline to request extra graduation tickets has passed. It was June 1st.
- A ticket is REQUIRED for everyone sitting in Jordan Court, including small children. The ONLY exception would be a newborn baby.
- Graduates were able to pick up their five (5) graduation tickets on Wednesday. If your tickets were not picked up, they will be available in the registrar’s office after school. The graduate or their parents are the only people who can pick up the tickets.
- Extra graduation tickets will be dispersed at rehearsal, June 8th.
- If you do not plan to use all five tickets, please return them to the registrar so that others may attend the graduation ceremony.
OVERFLOW SEATING
- Those who are unable to obtain tickets to attend the graduation program in the gymnasium are welcome to watch the program live on a big screen in the CHS Auditorium.
- This area offers more comfortable seating for elderly guests and guests with small children and offers easy accessibility to restrooms. This room also has air conditioning.
- NO ticket is required for seating in the Auditorium.
- This seating is first come - first serve.
GRADUATION CEREMONY
- The doors open at 5:30 pm for the public
- The Ceremony begins at 7:00 sharp.
- Graduates need to be here at 6:00pm (Graduates who are not here by 6:45pm will be crossed off of the walk list and will not be walking with their class)
- Due to the construction we will have to use the main entrance for the graduates to enter the gym.
- Guests will not be able to enter the gym while the graduating class is marching in to their seats.
- ALERT – latex balloons are NOT allowed at graduation, or anywhere in the building.
FINAL TRANSCRIPTS - (AFTER semester 2 FINAL grades have posted)
- If you plan on attending college, remember that colleges require a final transcript with your graduation date.
- See the Registrar to fill out a BLUE Transcript Request Form. (Please remember that you must formally request that your final transcript be sent at the end of the year. A request processed before semester 2 final grades have posted does not equal a final request.)
- There is a $3.00 charge for each transcript.
- TRANSCRIPTS WILL NOT BE SENT IF A STUDENT HAS FINES DUE TO OUR SCHOOL!
- Please be aware of your deadlines and plan ahead — it takes time to process transcripts. Transcripts for colleges /universities will be mailed out from our school by June 28th.
- The CHS office will be CLOSED the entire month of JULY. Please plan a head and make sure that you request your FINAL transcript no later than JUNE 25th to insure it is mailed before the office closes.
- Due to FERPA law: once a student is 18 and is no longer enrolled in high school, parents can no longer request student records. All requests for transcripts and other student records must be received in writing from the student.
Are You Moving Over the Summer or Going To A Different School?
If you will be moving over the summer (or plan to NOT attend CHS next school year for any reason), you must notify the registrar in writing as soon as possible. The parent/legal guardian may email the registrar at Bhensley@cdaschools.org. In the email please include:
· The student’s full name
· The reason for not returning (moving, home school etc..)
· The name of the new school the student will be attending
Please also make sure that all books and other school property is returned before you leave. If there are any outstanding fines, an official transcript will not be sent.

Applicants will be judged on four pillars: SCHOLARSHIP (3.5 G.P.A minimum), LEADERSHIP, CHARACTER, AND COMMUNITY SERVICE, Paperwork turned in on time will be evaluated by a team of faculty members, and all applicants will be notified of their results via letter picked up in A-5.

ADVANCED OPPORTUNITIES - SUMMER 2018
Coeur d’Alene High School has made changes to the Advanced Opportunities Funding process. We understand this process can be stressful and confusing. So, beginning with summer 2018 we will be submitting all funding requests for eligible courses. This means students and families no longer need to submit their courses for funding. We still encourage students to log into their Advanced Opportunities Account to monitor the funding requests and their available balances.
RISING SENIORS
The summer between Junior and Senior year can be a great time to get a jump start on college planning. Here are a few things you can do over the summer to help alleviate the stress often associated with the college application process.
- Plan College Visits
- Research college application deadlines – GET ORGANIZED!
- Write your college admissions and scholarships essays
- Scholarship Searches
