## IPC

This week the children learnt what equipment is required to make an electric circuit. They made a 'human circuit' first to understand that electricity had to flow and discussed what happens when a circuit is broken. They then made circuits of their own using light bulbs and buzzers. They experimented with materials that conduct or insulate. Previous knowledge of 'fair tests' helped them successfully write up and conduct a fair test.

## LANGUAGE ARTS

We have continued with the Café Strategy of understanding the difference between fact or opinion. Using statements the children decided which were facts and which were opinions. Then the children gave a fact or opinion about several different pictures.

## Writing

The children continued to explore How To books and we began unpacking the parts of a 'How To' book. The children are busy writing about topics they know a lot about. Parts of 'How To' books include a title, steps, headings, teaching a reader how to do something, matching illustrations to steps and tips & warnings.

Our Handwriting focused on the joined-up letters of 'ri'.

## Spelling

Our Spelling and Grammar lessons have focused on singular and plural words. The children practiced changing singular words into plural.

## Maths

In Maths this week we continued working on our chapter on length. We know that we can measure length in centimetres (cm), meters (m) and kilometres (km) and this week we focused on measuring in centimetres using rulers and measuring tapes, as well as using string for wiggly lines. We were able to estimate lengths and use a ruler to check our guesses. We used vocabulary like more than, less than, height, width and length. Next week we will finish learning about length and will be able to use the model method to solve word problems using addition and subtraction. We will review our learning of length in our end of chapter test.
