End of Trimester Updates
Thank you to the hundreds of parents who came out to Parent/Teacher conferences during the week of October 16th. For those who could not make it we are in the process of sending home Progress Reports, M-STEP Parent Reports, i-Ready Math Diagnostic reports and other information. For Progress Reports and the most up to date information about your child's grades, be sure to check Skyward.
It's hard to believe but the end of the 1st trimester will be on November 17th!! Encourage your child to check in with their teachers to find out about upcoming end of trimester assessments, projects, and assignments.
The majority of our classes at Holly Middle School are year long courses which do not always have an "final exam" that neatly coincides with the end of a trimester. In the past we have made adjustments to our instruction in order to fit an assessment into the trimester calendar. We believe that providing flexibility regarding the timing of assessments will better serve our students. Therefore, many courses will still have an assessment near the end of a trimester, but they will not be tied to a certain day nor will they be categorized as a “Final Exam” on report cards. Teachers at each grade level and subject will continue to collaborate to ensure that their assessments are appropriate, timely, and focused on state standards for all of our students. At the 6th and 7th grade level the assessments near the end of a trimester will reflect a unit of study (not the entire trimester). At the 8th grade level the assessments near the end of the trimester may either be from a unit of study, or from a larger portion of the trimester. The assessments will be common, meaning all students at that grade level for a particular subject will take the same assessment.
On report cards there is a column for “Exams”, only classes that offer HS credit will enter a grade in this column. For all MS classes this column will be left blank.

If you have any questions please contact your child's counselor.
Oakland Schools is offering a free opportunity for all families on Nov. 8th
Are you curious about the potential effects of kids "scrolling through life with rapid-fire thumbs and shorter attention span?" If so, consider joining other interested parents for a viewing of "Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age," a documentary about one of the biggest parenting issues of our time. This film reveals how tech time impacts kids; development. It also offers solutions on how adults can empower their kids to best navigate the digital world to find balance.

Morning Drop-Off
Please only drop off students in the drop off lanes!! Students dropped off in the parking lot create an unsafe situation!!
If you are dropping off students in the morning please pull all the way up in between the "Drop Off" signs. Our plan is to have cars let students out in "pods" of 6. We'd like to fit 3 cars in front of the crosswalk, then have those 3 cars and the 3 cars behind the crosswalk let students out. After students exit the next "pod" of 6 pulls up and follows suit!!
Following this system has made the morning drop-off move more smoothly!! Thanks for your help in making this a safe and efficient process!!
Remember students may enter the building at 7:15am
