FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK...
Dear Parents, Friends and Benefactors of St. John the Baptist School,
I wanted to take the opportunity to wish all of you a happy and blessed New Year. I also wanted to thank you for your incredible generosity for our gala event. Now that we have concluded 2019 and all of the final details of revenue and expenses from our first St. John’s School Spectacular are known, I am able to announce the amazing level of success we achieved with your generosity.
We began this first ever event with the hope of raising $50,000 dollars for St. John the Baptist School. I will admit that on the first night that the entire committee met there was some serious skepticism about how realistic or unrealistic this goal was. There were moments along the way when it seemed we would get close but not quite make it.
I am very pleased to announce that we vastly exceeded our goal. We had a gross revenue total of $98,000, and we were able to net $75,664 to support St. John the Baptist School. All of our students will benefit from your generosity. We are already planning for next year’s Spectacular. It will be held at St, John the Baptist School on Saturday, November 14, 2020. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend.
As a result of this success, we will be able to do several critically important things which I articulated in my welcome letter when we began this event. We will be able to keep our registration fee for the 2020-2021 school year the same as this year. We will be able to have a very minimal increase in tuition of only $75 per student (the average tuition increase for the past six years has been $120-150). We will be able to allocate $8,500 for students who have an immediate and emergency need. Lastly, we were able to eliminate the magazine drive and to exceed its proceeds through this event. All of the proceeds from this event go directly to benefit students. They are not used for other school projects.
St. John the Baptist School has been providing a Catholic education to students for 173 years, three centuries. This school has been a powerful instrument of academic education, Catholic Faith formation and responsible citizenship for thousands of students and generations of graduates. Through this initiative, we are able to continue this important and holy work.
This event affords us the opportunity to begin to do what Catholic high schools and Catholic universities have been doing for years. That is to develop and maintain relationships with graduates, sponsors and benefactors in order to create a philanthropic base for the future.
Through your ongoing support, we will be able to ensure that a Catholic education is affordable for every family who wants this for their children. It will continue to provide us with funds to create additional educational opportunities for all students.
As I often say, it’s all a gift. God has gifted us; let us in return be the giver of the gift.
Thank you for your support of and generosity for St. John the Baptist School.

The Book Fair Committee would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the students, teachers, and families who purchased books during our Super Hero Book Fair and to all of the volunteers that helped with the event. The incredible support of our school library is greatly appreciated.
As a result of surpassing the sales goal of 1000 books, the students enjoyed an out of uniform day last Friday. Also, two classes tied for the most books sold per student! The WINNERS of the Class Pizza Parties are: Miss Witzgall's 2nd grade class, and Mrs. Duhon's 3rd grade class! Congratulations to those students and teachers! Please stay tuned for pizza party dates.

The Body Matters
Nathanael Egan and Savannah Falter from Pregnancy Center West recently visited the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade religion classes to present “The Body Matters.” This program actively engages students in learning about the physical, spiritual, and emotional benefits of choosing a chaste lifestyle. Encouraging the virtue of self-control, it seeks to provide them with the knowledge, desire, and strength to practice God's plan of chastity.
