January 2022

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to everyone! I hope you had a nice holiday break. We look forward to a great start to 2022 here at the ECC! This month we will begin some of our progress monitoring in preparation for our February report cards. I've included a sample of our new report card which aligns with the state standards. We will be rating progress in all preacademic areas, including social emotional learning.


I am so thankful for this ECC community - you have been so generous with supporting our fundraising efforts, providing gifts to Toys for Tots, and donating to our annual Giving Tree to provide holiday gifts to families in our school community. I also want to express my gratitude to all who have been extra diligent in following the Covid guidelines to keep our staff and students safe! This year more than ever, I am convinced that 'together we are stronger'.

Standards-Based Report Card

Beginning this February, the ECC will be using a Standards-Based Report Card. This will allow teachers to clearly communicate student progress towards Massachusetts' grade-level standards and expectations to families. The following rubric will be used to indicate your child's level of progress:


Preschool Standards Based Report Card Rubric

*=Not addressed indicates that this standard has not been addressed during this particular term. Some standards are taught at different times of the school year or with older students (older 4’s, 5’s)


N = Not yet demonstrating progress towards standard. The student has not yet demonstrated the ability to understand the grade level standards and expectations


B = Beginning to progress towards meeting the standard. The student demonstrates a beginning understanding of grade-level standards and expectations


P = Progressing towards meeting the standard or has met the standard. The student consistently demonstrates the grade level standard or expectations with or without adult support.


The ECC will also begin using an additional measure of early Literacy and Numeracy development with students who are transitioning to kindergarten this fall.

Shelter In Place/Lockdown Drill

On the afternoon of January 28th, the ECC, along with our local police department, will be conducting a building lockdown drill. This will take less than 10 minutes and will involve all students and staff remaining inside their locked classrooms, away from the doors and windows. Teachers will communicate to our students that we are practicing so that we can keep everyone safe at school, just like when we practice our fire drills. As always, I am here to answer any questions you may have.

Please remember - January tuition payments are due! Please pay online (ecc.wrsd.net) or send in a check made payable to WRSD/ECC.
