CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU!
Mrs. Cindy Palmer: Mrs. Palmer has worked in D200 for many years at several schools. She taught several grade levels and has been a reading specialist. Mrs. Palmer's future plans include time with her family and time traveling. We will miss her!
Mr. John Rigby: 40+ years of teaching... and a positive impact on many, many children and their families. We thank Mr. Rigby for his years of service to D200. His humor, kindness, compassion and dedication to teaching are an inspiration to us all!
Mrs. Jennifer Owcarz: D200 has been fortunate for the support provided in Special Education classrooms by Mrs. Owcarz for many years. She has always been focused on what's best for students, finding ways to celebrate their successes and promote independence. Olson will miss her!
We also wish Mr. David Mugica best wishes and thank him for his time with us. Mr. Mugica and his family will return to Spain this summer. His leadership has been instrumental across D200!

CHARACTER FOCUS - RESPECT
Here are a couple of phrases that can help us do that:
1. “You sound upset and angry…”
Responding to a child’s back talk with empathy is probably the most effective tactic you can use. You have now just given them the vocabulary words they need to tell you how they feel. It can calm kids down pretty quickly so that they can think straight. It is also an invitation to start a conversation as to what is really bothering them.
2. “Listen I know you're upset, but can you say that respectfully…”
Empathy and a gentle reminder to be respectful can work wonders with kids who are a little more savvy and have been taught how to be respectful and voice their concerns in a reasonable manner.
