Southview Elementary
February 2024 Newsletter
A note from Ms. Denure
Greetings Southview Families!
I hope this February newsletter finds you and your family members well. Our second semester of the school year has started and we are eager for the second half of learning this school year. Further, we are looking forward to the opportunity to connect with our families in March at our Parent Teacher Conferences. However, if you have any questions regarding the semester one report card for your student(s), please feel free to connect with your child(ren)’s teacher prior to conferences.
We are excited to partner with a few high school students from the National Honor Society who will be providing some before school clubs for our students this month. Also, we hope you can join us at our PTO/CLC Craft night on Tuesday, February 20 at 5:30 pm. We will look to share those and other events through various social media outlets and our website. Please consider following Southview and our school district on social media.
Finally, a special congratulations to our students who earned a first or second place in the Southview Jump Off Competition that happened in Bloomer this past weekend.
Thank you for supporting your child(ren) and our teachers and staff members. TOGETHER we can achieve great things for our children and for our community!
Respectfully,
Sara E. Denure, Principal

February is National Dental Health Month
Lifelong habits begin at home. Make dental health part of your daily routine and share these reminders with your whole family:
Brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, especially after breakfast and before bedtime. Drinking water after eating also helps to clear your teeth of food particles.
Floss every day. An adult should help children under the age of eight to floss. Older children should be ready to floss on their own.
Limit the number of times you eat snacks, especially the sticky ones and long lasting ones.
Visit a dentist regularly for a routine checkup and a cleaning.
Protect your teeth by wearing a mouth guard when playing sports.
Don’t forget to change your tooth brush regularly, and after an illness. We have toothbrushes available at the schools if you would like them!! Please call your health office and we will send them home with your child!
Sweet snack facts:
Eating a lot of snacks with sugar may cause cavities.
Every time you eat sugar, plaque in your mouth mixes with the sugar to make acid. The acid hurts the teeth and causes decay over time. This can be painful!
The Bright Smiles Dental Program will be visiting the elementary schools in February, March and April applying sealants to students that signed up for the program at the beginning of the school year. If you have not signed up your child but would like to, please contact your school's health office.
From the Nurse: Sick Procedure
Keep your student home if any of the following apply:
Temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher in the last 24 hours before medication (Tylenol/Ibuprofen)

Teacher Requests for 2024-2025
We discourage parents from requesting teachers for their children. We work hard to achieve a balance between the classes at each grade level. This balance takes into account academic achievements, boy/girl ratio, and behavior concerns. Any request makes this far more difficult.
If a request is made, it must be in writing with very specific reasons for the request (forms are provided upon request from the office). Educational reasons must be the primary focus of the request. The school team will consider your request when making the final decision.
Requests must be submitted no later than April 1st.
There is no guarantee that parent requests will be honored. The balance of the classes as described above is of most importance.
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten Registration
The public elementary schools in Chippewa Falls are beginning to plan for kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year.
Students who presently attend one of the Chippewa Falls School District’s 4-year-old Kindergarten programs do not need to re-enroll. Students are automatically enrolled in Kindergarten. More information will be provided from Southview regarding our Kindergarten Registration event.
Children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2024, and who will be entering Kindergarten in the Chippewa Falls School District for the 2024-2025 school year, and are not enrolled in the Chippewa Falls 4-year old Kindergarten program, need to enroll. Those students who attended a 4K program in the 2022-23 school year, but were not in school this past year will need to enroll as well.
To enroll your child, please visit the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District website. If you do not have internet access, please contact Tami at (715) 720-1850 or visit the Administration Office located at 1130 Miles Street, Chippewa Falls, WI. You may also visit your child’s elementary school for assistance in registering.

What is your favorite book? Dear America
Share something "interesting" about yourself: Lately, I've drawn interest on understanding and hunting of the Aroura Borealis aka Northern Lights. Until recently I have never witnessed them except from others pictures of them in Alaska. I have gotten fairly good at reading the forecast and understanding when they will appear alone the 45th parallel. The first part of December, after getting home from school, I noticed that the activity was right, so decided to go out and take a ride. About 7:15 along the shores of the Big Lake Wissota there she was!! It was like I was four years old on Christmas Day!! All though I was puzzled because they only way I could see her was with taking a picture of the sky. Very much looking forward to the next showing.
