Habit 4 - Think Win - Win
Think Win-Win is the belief that everyone can win. It's not me or you - it is both of us. It is a belief that there are enough good things for everyone; it is an abundant way of thinking. Think Win-Win is being happy for others when good things happen to them. As a parent, not everything is negotiable, but if you go into discussions with your child with a win-win mindset, you'll find a lot less resistance.
- Play a game with your child(ren) that has a definite winner. Explain how competition is okay when you play a game, but is is not okay in relationships. Discuss how tense it would be in your home if every situation had to have a winner. A better way to think is win-win. This means we think of solutions that we can all feel good about when there is a problem.
- Think of an ongoing conflict you tend to have with your child (homework, cleaning his or her room, feeding the dog, putting gas in the car) and then discuss a win-win solution to the conflict. Write down the solution and then remind each other of it the next time the situation arises.
- Remember not to compare your children in front of each other. Try not to say to Marcelo that "Juan always remembers to clear the table." That's win-lose thinking. Instead, just concentrate on praising Juan for a job well done. Marcelo will get the message.
- Think about your relationship with your child. Is it generally win-win? If not, how is that affecting your family life? What should YOU do differently?

Inclement Weather:
If Bad Weather Occurs During the School Day:
It is our district's policy NOT to dismiss students early due to bad weather. We must be mindful of such safety issues as transportation, particularly for those students who normally are driven to and from school; lack of supervision at home because of an unscheduled dismissal; and the uncertainty of sending children away from a protected school environment and out into hazardous weather conditions.
If Bad Weather Occurs At Dismissal Time:
Sometimes bad weather, such as an electrical storm, will occur right at dismissal time. If that happens, we will delay dismissal until the area is safe.

Brougham Birthday Book Club
Dear Brougham Families,
You have the opportunity to celebrate your child’s birthday at school by becoming a member of our Birthday Book Club.
Those who choose to participate in the Birthday Book Club simply complete the form in the pdf below, attach a $10 contribution (please make checks out to Brougham Elementary) and turn both items in to Mrs. Chism (Library) at least one week prior to your child’s birthday.
Your child will be called to the library during the month of their birthday to select their “Birthday Book” from a number of brand new, pre-selected books that meet the needs of our collection. Once a book is chosen, a bookplate with your child’s name will be placed inside the front cover. Additionally, your child will receive a special bookmark, be given recognition on the kiosk in the front hallway, and be the first person to check-out the new book!
Thank you for helping Brougham’s library stack-up!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Rhonda Chism, Library Media Specialist
