The TIGER times
Yamhill Carlton High School
As you are probably aware, students are not in their new classrooms today. Following is a statement that explains the delay.
The building is complete and has passed all inspections except fire flow. As part of the school bond process the school district was required by the City of Yamhill to put in a 12 inch waterline across the campus and replace approximately 1500 feet of city waterline next to city streets. This was done at an approximate cost of 1.3 million dollars. This new line did not increase the fire flow up to the established fire code to school district property. The Yamhill Fire Department will not grant us occupancy until we are able to develop a plan to mitigate the inadequate volume of water. We are currently working with the fire protection district and the City of Yamhill to determine what those mitigating measures will be. It is the school district’s hope that a resolution will be arrived at soon and we can begin to teach students in this remarkable new facility. At the Yamhill City Council meeting on October 11th, the city council voted to start doing work to upgrade the fire flow to the whole community as it is inadequate, by code, for any existing commercial or educational building.
This past Thursday our football team defeated Corbett, 38-6 as we celebrated Senior Night for our Cross Country, Cheerleaders, and Football Seniors. It was a great night to be a YC Tiger! I know our students and coaches appreciate the support they receive from the YC community.
It takes many people to orchestrate a home football game but unfortunately, we are unable to supervise the Intermediate School playground and we want you to be aware of that if you allow your children to venture over to the playground during athletic events.
Coaching an athletic team is an incredible amount of time, energy, patience, organization and, for many teams, the commitment is year round. I encourage you to take a moment to thank our YCHS coaches for all they have provided for our young people this season..
Although many of our teams are wrapping up their seasons in a couple weeks, our Girls Soccer team is ranked #1 in League and #3 in State which means their season will be extended with playoffs. Keep working Ladies and Coaches!
I am looking forward to a great week being part of your student's education!
Go Tigers,
Cindy Schubert

ASVAB Test on November 1
The Armed Services Vocational Apitude Battery (ASVAB) will be given to interested Juniors and Seniors on November 1. Students need to sign up in the Counseling Office if they are interested in taking the test.
There are two primary reasons why you should consider taking the ASVAB.
The ASVAB is utilized to assist 11th and 12th graders to better assess their practical knowledge and natural mental aptitude. The exam calculates how a student may benefit from certain career pathways depending on how they score on parts on the exam. It can help point a student that is solid in mathematics towards a career in math then is able to pull from other aspects of the test to further suggest more focused careers based on how well they were able to comprehend that field of information. An illustration of this could be a junior that scores well in science and technology, the ASVAB score may suggest they focus their senior year by acquiring extra classes to better their odds to get into a school more focused on that expertise. The ASVAB serves as a useful tool to let a growing high school student and their families make an educated decision on how to proceed with formal education beyond the senior year.
2. The ASVAB test also is used to assess the developed abilities of an armed forces recruit to discover the quality of vocational proficiency in various fields of knowledge and expertise. The test is utilized as a "forecaster" of how particular individuals will have the ability to master certain areas of study. The ASVAB exam calculates knowledge of numerous fields of study and level of understanding in order to work out which military professions might be a better fit for a fresh soldier/sailor. The ASVAB score you earn in each component of the examination can directly impact if you can move ahead on certain armed forces vocations.
