Fourth Years
Start Your Impossible
“How does understanding who I am and who my customer is help me to propose an appropriate and viable solution?”
Your learner has been tasked to work with a mentor from Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) to solve a problem in their respective department that includes findings/ideas for the future of the automotive industry. In doing so, they will respond to the driving question, “How does understanding who I am and who my customer is help me to propose an appropriate and viable solution?”
The ultimate goal of this project is for your learner to understand how solutions to problems need to be adapted based on the needs of the customer, not the preferences of their group.
They will be asked to provide a completed A3 project management document that details a breakdown of the problem, analysis of the root cause, and countermeasures to their client.
Checkpoints:
Milestones:
Final draft of A3 due
Presentation November 15th
As you are working through this project, remember: Whether it is the strategic direction of the business or logistics, social innovation or payroll, Toyota is where you start your impossible!
Questions for the dinner table:
Tell me about the department in Toyota you will be working with on this project.
What are the specific questions you have asked/will ask your facilitators or TMNA mentors?
What problems or issues will your teamwork solve for Southwest Airlines?
What categories or subjects inside the library database will be useful to your research (for any course or project)?
How do you think corporations should impact society?
How do you persuade others to listen to your ideas?
Second Years
Another exciting week down at the Academy! Learners got to experience the fruits of their labors as they developed the pictures that they took with their pinhole cameras. Who knew you could make a camera out of a cardboard box and tape? Ask your learners about the picture that they developed!
Model United Nations is going swimmingly, as we finished off our first session, and began the second session this week. Learners had the opportunity to switch committees and get a fresh perspective on global issues. Delegates then used the first meeting of the second session to establish the topic agenda items over which they will write resolutions. These resolutions are written with the intent at trying to solve or stem aspects of the global issues which they will discuss.
Learners also got to explore the Classical Mayan alphabet. All were heavily engaged as learners broke their name down into phonetic syllables, chose the logos for each syllable, and then combined their logos to create their glyphs. Ask your learner to show you the Mayan glyphs that they created!
First Years
This week is final presentations for the Farm to Table project. We look forward to seeing what our learners have in the board rooms on Wednesday morning.
