Before and After Care Interest Survey
We have a great opportunity to bring Before and After School care to Cecilton Elementary School. Since the summer, we have been working with the Boys and Girls Club of Harford and Cecil Counties to expand their programming to our school. Families could choose to enroll in before schol care, after school care, or both depending on the needs. One of the benefits of working with the Boys and Girls Club is the number of scholarships available to families, either through state or federal programs, or through the Boys and Girls Club organization. Some of these amazing scholarships can bring daycare costs down to as little as $50 dollars a week for many families!
In order to open a program, we need to have a minimum of 15 students whose families are in need of care in our school. Please let us know if you would be interested in care. In addition, if you know of a family in the area that enrolls their child in another school due to daycare, please forward this newsletter to them so that they can fill out this interest survey. We would love to be able to bring all of Cecilton's students back to their home school!
Snow Days, Virtual Instruction Days & Technology Survey
It's getting to be that time of the year! Winter weather time! We all know that students and families LOVE a good snow day but that too many snow days leads to the loss of instructional time during the second and third marking periods. CCPS has been approved for up to 5 virtual instructional days this year which will be used to maintain our instructional programming over the winter months. We have developed the following plan for school closings:
- The first TWO inclement weather closings will be "good old-fashioned" snow days! If these days are used, the time will be made up on March 17th and May 26th.
- The next THREE inclement weather closings will be asynchronous learning days. Teachers will post work in their Schoology or Seesaw classrooms for students to complete at some point in their day. Teachers will be available through email and during office hours during the day. Students who do not have access to computers or students who are in grades PK-2 will also receive a paper packet of work to complete that day. Since work is provided, there will be no make up days needed.
- The next FIVE inclement weather closings will be synchronous learning days. Teachers and students will follow a day of instruction through their Schoology or Seesaw classrooms similar to when we experienced virtual learning during the pandemic. A daily schedule will be provided closer to time. Students who do not have access to technology will be provided with a paper packet.
In order to help us be prepared with materials or to provide your child with a chromebook and/or hotspot in case of synchronous learning days, please complete one of the technology needs surveys below:
2022 Coats For Kids Campaign
Cecilton Elementary School will once again be participating in the Cecil County Coats For Kids Campaign from November 7 – December 16, 2022. Over the past 30+ years, The Kiwanis Club has collected used coats to distribute to children and adults in our community. Please place gently used coats in a plastic bag and drop them in the donation box located in the school lobby. Thanks in advance for your contribution!
