Galtier Gazette
A Quick Glimpse into Our Weekly Happenings
New from Ms Caldwell
Greetings Galtier Families, I hope you all had a restful break. As we come back into the school following this break please remind your child/ren to wear their masks properly throughout the school day. Masks are required for all individuals ages 2 and up entering SPPS buildings regardless of vaccination status. If your child is experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms please do not send them to school and complete a report using the SPPS reporting system:
PTO News
Families, there is one more school board meeting where we can show up and support Galtier before they vote on the district's Envision plan and decide whether to close our school and others. On Tuesday, Nov. 30, let's make our voices heard! Please come to 360 S. Colborne Street in St. Paul at 5:30. If you'd like to sign up to speak for a couple minutes, you can do that here: https://www.spps.org/Page/31813. Our next PTO meeting will be Thursday Dec. 16. If you have ideas for what you'd like the PTO to discuss, or if you want to reach out for any reason, email us anytime! galtierpto@gmail.com.
1st Grade News
First grade this week worked on writing letters in family, friends and adults in the school and addressing an envelope. Students are enjoying “mailing” our letters in our classroom mailbox. For reading we read about being thankful and thought of someone in our life that we are thankful for. We also read Squanto’s Journey, which led into our discussion about Thanksgiving and how the tradition of the celebration began. In Math, we worked on completing some assessments of what we have learned so far. Students just finished up fast facts with +1 and -1, along with +2 and -2. We have also been practicing writing numbers up to 120! Way to go first graders.
5th Grade News
Our fabulous 5ths are working extremely hard on 3 digit by 3 digit multiplication AND various methods of doing long division. This week we moved to decimals and fractions.
In literacy we are working on using the keyword strategy to identify the main idea and key details and use them to summarize the text.
In writing we are just starting a unit on Interpretive Essay.
How can you help?
- Ask them to work on ST Math or Xtra Math on their Ipad. Also you can simply ask them multiplication fact questions like, "What is 4 times 9?"
- Please make certain that your scholar bring their Ipad to school EVERY day. Many are forgetting them at home and this makes planning very difficult.
EDL News
This week in EDL our K-2 scholars have tons of fun learning about and building catapults. The 3-5 graders got their ART on as they did a Who? What? Where? project. They had to decide on who their work was going to show. Then they had to decide what they were doing. And finally, they chose where it was happening. See some of their creations below.
