Week of June 6 - 8
A Note from the Principal/Una nota de la directora
The NCE Administration wishes you a safe and happy summer break. Thank you so much for the ways you have supported and partnered with us this year to help our children reach their academic and social potential.
Here are a few highlights from this year:
- The return of Science Night, Art Means Everything and The World's Carnival
- The PTA and local businesses assisted us by donating picnic tables to create outdoor seating areas
- The beginning of a school garden that is maintained by parents and students
Please note the "CCS Reach 20" and the Chatham County Public Library reading challenges below. We encourage everyone to continue reading for at least 20 minutes a day over the summer. Research shows that students who read 20 minutes daily over the summer have up to 85% more retention of learning than students who do not read each day. Set your child up for success by creating a routine that included reading each day!

Optional Class Assignment Parent Input
Optional Class Assignment Parent Input Form
NCE has a strong tradition of allowing parent input concerning student classroom assignments. An important focus for our administrative team will be to design classroom assignments to support students as they learn and teachers as they teach. Our leadership team works annually to plan and design an outline for classroom assignments that will best fit the needs of our school while maximizing our support staff to support students.
The intention of classroom assignments is to find the best fit for students and teachers with a focus on maximizing academic achievement and social emotional development. It is our intent to work with parents/guardians and strive to match a student’s particular learning style with a supportive academic environment. With that in mind, it is important that parents/guardians understand that there are several elements that a principal must consider such as the academic and gender balance of a classroom, strengths and styles of individual teachers and students, teacher input and recommendations, and parent/guardian input regarding their student’s learning style. For these reasons, parent/guardian requests for a particular teacher are not considered and/or accepted.
Input regarding your student’s learning style using this form is the best and preferred way to communicate his or her academic needs. I encourage parents/guardians to read and understand the above statements when providing input regarding their student’s learning style. Input will be considered as class lists are finalized. You do not need to request dual language, if your child is already part of the program.
The window for parent/guardian input letters for next school year will be through Friday, June 17th. Please fill-in the form and describe the specific teaching style that will best fit your child(ren) unique needs. Note that classroom placements will be posted the day of “Meet the Teacher.” We are unable to post class lists earlier as we are often still changing class lists on the day they are released due to new student registrations and/or withdrawals.
