Kerr Happenings
July 20th, 2023
The 2023-24 school year is quickly approaching and we are busy on campus preparing for the return of our students. We are looking forward to seeing all of our Kerr Tigers on campus August 9th. Please let us know how we can support you and your student this upcoming school year.
As always, please reach out if you need any assistance or have any questions.
Mr. Lewis and Ms. Tones
New to Kerr?
Is your student new to Kerr? If so, we hope that they will join the NHS and NTLB teams for our annual Cub Camp on August 4th. Students will have an opportunity to spend time with their mentor, meet their advisor, and learn more about our campus organizations. We hope to see all our new faces there!

1st Day Schedule
On the first day of school (August 9th) all students will report directly to advisory for the morning and then attend all four classes for a shortened class period in the afternoon. During the morning advisory session students will attend a back to school session in the theater, ensure they have access to all schoolwide digital resources, sign up for smart tags/ids if necessary, and spend time getting to know their advisory group to assist them with a smooth start to the school year.

Bell Schedule
Alief ISD has a closed campus policy. Students are not permitted to leave campus for any reason during the school day unless they have been checked out through the front office or are a senior with a designated off-campus class period.
Students who are absent or tardy 3 or more times to a class in a term will receive notification of a potential loss of credit in their courses. Excessive absences in a term will result in an attendance contract with the assistant principal's office.
Take care of yourself and others. If you are not feeling well, please stay home. Upon return to campus submit documentation of the reason for your absence to the attendance office.
Below you will find the Kerr daily schedule as well as a link to the district calendar. High school students are dismissed at 1:30 on Wednesdays (unless noted otherwise on the calendar) to allow teachers an opportunity to plan together.

Campus Expectations
Textbooks, IDs, Smart Tags
Many of the required textbooks have an online option that is available to all students via both Schoology and the Hub. Students may also check out books if they prefer from the counter clerks in the academic centers.
Alief ISD is now a 1:1 district, and students are welcome to bring their own laptop or loan one from the district through the 1:1 student device program. There is a $20 fee and technology agreement form required to loan a device. You MUST HAVE a Technology Lending form completed and SIGNED as well as a $20 fee that is paid to cover insurance cost on the device BEFORE the device can be checked out. This can be paid in person with cash or on My School Bucks. The fee includes insurance on the device. For more details on the program, see https://www.aliefisd.net/1to1
Student IDs -- this year all students will be receiving a new ID with a new picture. Students that would like to have their picture taken prior to the start of school can do so during the technology pickup times listed below.
School supplies - individual teachers will share with students any specific course supply needs on the first day. Something to write with and something to write on is always a good place to start. ;)

Campus Communication
Alief ISD also utilizes Remind and Kinvolved to communicate with families and students. Families and students can receive these communications by email or text message. Please make sure to have updated contact information on file.
