JAGUAR UPDATE
Sunset Valley Elementary 9/16/16
Jaguar Corner
The Chiefs won. The Royals aren't out of it, yet. (barely!) And the lil' Jaguars just keep rolling along!!!! We had a guest come and tour our school this week from the Academic Systems Review and she was very impressed with our students, teachers and building! We all have much to be proud of at SVE! We are nearing parent teacher conferences, so please view the information that is shared below.
Our PTA is gearing up for its "WILD ABOUT READING" fundraiser! This is a great way to encourage reading for all of us while supporting the wonderful student programs and opportunities at SVE! Sometimes, I wonder if the Johnson children remember what a book looks like in this age of technology! This will be a great time to read a good book!
Mrs. Welch, our super Reading Specialist, has arranged for local Kansas City Author, Jason Sivewright to come and visit the kids at SVE! Mr. Sivewright is the author of several books, including, The Night the World Turned Royal Blue!! Very cool and very exciting!!! More details of a spirit day when Mr. Sivewright will be visiting us is coming soon.

Note from Mrs. Taylor!
Hi Families,
Welcome to cooler weather, football season, and Fall time activities!!! It's a FUN-FILLED time of year! Please enjoy this weekend with your loved ones. :)
Weekly BIST Tip: Safe Seat
All classrooms will have safe spots (including recess and lunch). Examples of when a child may be asked to move to the safe seat include refusing to work, disrupting class, not following directions, when a second redirection is given, and unsafe behavior. Sometimes, a child may need more time to calm down and think than just a “rethink” allows. If this is the case, there is a designated safe seat in your child’s classroom for calming down and problem-solving. Your child may choose to go on his own or may be asked by an adult to go to the safe seat in his/her classroom. As part of the problem-solving process, a child may be asked to fill out a Think Sheet, as mentioned in last week's BIST Tip. A Think Sheet allows the child to reflect on their behavior and be accountable for their actions.
