Cedar Shoals welcomes Ms. Erin Thompson Podvin, Family Communications Specialist
Hello!
My name is Erin Thompson Podvin, and I am the new Family Communications Specialist serving Cedar Shoals High School. In this capacity I will be handling Family Engagement initiatives for the school.
I bring with me nearly 20 years of experience in the K-12 and higher education settings, including previous service in the Clarke County School District from 2003-2007. I have spent the past 13 years working to increase college readiness, access, persistence and retention among Latin@ students, as well as supporting first-generation college students and other vulnerable student populations in their transition into and journey through higher education.
I am here to support learning, and to be a bridge between school and home. Please do not hesitate to reach out with your questions or concerns, if there is information that needs to be shared, or if there is a conversation that needs to happen. I am a bilingual Spanish speaker and ready to help facilitate those interactions where language may be a barrier.
I am a proud first-generation college graduate of Boston University, mommy to two, and active in a number of community organizations in the Athens area.
I look forward to getting to know you, to serving as a resource, and to collaborating to support our students and families on their unique journeys.
You can find me in Room D-108, via email at podvine@clarke.k12.ga.us, or via phone at (706) 546-5375 ext. 21252.
Sincerely,
Ms. Erin
Sinceros saludos,
Sra. Erin

Spotlight on Seniors!
The fee for Senior Advisory Dues is now $100.00. If you have already started paying your dues, you are locked into the $80.00 fee. You will not be able to participate in any senior activities planned through the Advisory Board if you do not pay this fee. The more seniors who pay, the more we can expect to plan. In the past, the seniors planned other school activities, a picnic and a trip to Six Flags.
Please note: We want to emphasize to seniors- you are not required to pay this money, and the only reason for the funds is to plan other senior activities or trips beyond what the school has designed for seniors.
If you have any questions, please contact the Senior Advisor Valencia Thornton at (706) 546-5375 extension 21270 or email thorntonv@clarke.k12.ga.us.
Juniors- access the ACT Academy now!
The ACT will be administered on February 25th to all Juniors during the school day. The test is free of charge. More details, including a parent information letter, are forthcoming.
Juniors are creating an ACT Academy account in which they will be able to do free ACT prep. We encourage students to prep as much as possible before the February 25th administration of the official (not practice) ACT at school! This is a great opportunity for students to assess how they do. They will also have the option to send this score to colleges when they are ready to apply. Please encourage your student to utilize their ACT Academy account often before the ACT administration on Feb. 25th.
