GCA Weekly Update

Hello Spartans,

I apologize for the Friday letter coming out on Saturday evening. There are several pieces of information I need to get out to you. The first one being unofficial as when we are reminded that our time here on this earth is finite, we should remind each other of each day’s importance. Tell those close to you that you love them and do everything possible to make each day as good as it can be.

Character Strong - Bring Change to Mind (BC2M) lesson

We will take a week off of Character Strong to talk about Bullying and its effects on the people around us. When we speak in Character Strong about supporting other people, looking out for other people, and making those around you better, we address bullying through positive behavior. This week we will talk about the effects of bullying to make our students aware of the detrimental effects they have when we purposefully put someone down. When we subtract their value, I want to encourage, I mean dare, all of our community members to continue to send Daymaker messages to those you think could use a little pick me up from some kind words. We are researching to see if this has an overall impact on our community.

Important GCA Policy

All families must realize that GCA has a no “F” policy. If a student earns an F in any class for their semester grade, they will be removed from Gilbert Classical Academy. This policy is especially important for our students at Global. If a student earns an F in any Global class this semester, you will not be able to return to GCA. Gilbert Classical Academy does not have a strict acceptance process. Most everyone can attempt to thrive in an all honors environment. GCA does have a strict probation process, which, if you earn an F, you have to leave the academy.

Keeping up with Homework while out

Please be aware that if a child has to miss school for any reason, they are expected to keep up the best they can. Buzz and Google Classroom are both updated continuously. So when possible, please make sure students are checking in, doing assignments, and turning them in so they don’t get overwhelmed when they return.

Parent volunteers are NEEDED

to help with Teacher Appreciation lunches. Please contact Michelle Sorensen ASAP if you’d like to be added to her list of volunteers. You can contact her via email or text.” Mnsorensen000204@gmail.com or 480-789-2195.

GCA Good Things

Eugenia Trakal is one of 15 seniors in Arizona who won the Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship for $1,000! To quote PCA, "These student-athletes have shown how they positively impacted sport on three levels: by making themself, their teammates, and their community better. However, they have done so while navigating a worldwide pandemic that put a complete halt to the sports they love". Here is the link where my name and GCA are recognized: https://positivecoach.org/the-pca-blog/announcing-the-2020-winners-of-pcas-college-scholarship/?utm_source=email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=tic.

We are so proud that students get rewards for doing the right thing and make those around them better.

Free and Reduced Lunch Form - Need this for several educational programs

This year, Gilbert Public Schools received an additional 5.9 million dollars in federal funds based on income guidelines directly related to student free & reduced lunch eligibility. Taking the time to complete a GPS Free & Reduced Lunch Application means GPS can continue providing additional academic support and services for students (even if your child decides not to participate in the lunch program). Thank you for taking the time to complete an online application and ensuring our school district receives its fair share of Federal funds. Click here to watch a short video to learn just how vital these funds are to our schools and all of our students.
