Traveling To China
Traveling to China is like traveling anywhere. When you visit China, you will need to find hotels to stay in, which may not be as complicated as you might think. Although many travel agencies or online travel sites can make your reservations, you can do it yourself. In this lesson, you will learn to make hotel reservations and converse with hotel personnel. You might find it easy enough that you will make your own hotel reservations when you go to China.
We all have the experience of long hours of road trips. Driving is the most economical way of traveling in America. However, traveling in China is very different from traveling in America. Transportation in China is not as developed as in America. While people travel by trains, planes, ships, buses and bikes, the primary means of travel is by train. Before 1949, travel was very difficult, but the Chinese government worked to improve it by putting into place a comprehensive transportation system consisting of railways, highways, and airplanes. Because of China's increasing wealth and development, travel by air and automobiles are becoming more prevalent, however when people travel in China, many still prefer trains. It is convenient and safe. If you take an overnight train, you may save a night in hotel. Therefore, it is cheaper. Don't forget to try a trip by train when you visit China the next time.
There is video in this lesson. In this video conversation, Li Fang calls a hotel in China to make a reservation for her visit there. She talks to a hotel associate. They have a conversation about the availability, the price, the room requirement, the arrival date, the duration, and other important information.
Watch the video and practice the dialogue with it.
