Brentwood Elementary Mission Statement
~Achievement~Actions~Attitudes~
Greetings Parents:
Parent-Teacher Conferences – Thank you for the many parents who attended the parent –teacher conferences Thursday evening. We appreciate your efforts to attend the conference and dialog with your child’s teacher. Please note that if you were unable to complete the conference due to the time constraints, our teachers will be happy to convene another conference time.
Changing Transportation – We make every effort to insure that your child gets home the way you indicate. Some suggestions to help us in this:
· Never leave an email message about transportation – teachers are very busy and do not sit at their computers checking email minute-by-minute.
· Never leave a voice message on the teacher’s school phone.
· Always send a written note with your child or,
· Call the office before 3:00 p.m. We do have procedures that we follow to get this message to your child.
Something new – you may be asked to provide some form of verification on the phone when you call to change transportation. This is for the protection of your child. We appreciate your help with this.
Picture Retakes – Picture retakes will be taken on October 28th in the morning only.
Community Forum – The next Community Forum will be held Wednesday, October 28th at 6:00 p.mn. in the auditorium at Plainfield community High School. The topic will be drug abuse prevention. Due to the increase in drug abuse and the availability to children, this should be a forum that all parents attend. Parents will be provided with information to assist them in protecting their children.
There are several Halloween events listed below, a couple of them are even at our Plainfield Community Schools!

Important Notice to ALL PARENTS regarding Breakfast at School
IF you do not wish for your child to buy breakfast at school, please discuss this with them. We cannot monitor OR restrict this at school.
If a child says they have NOT had breakfast we will never turn them away. Having a healthy breakfast is EXTREMELY important for all of our students here at Brentwood Elementary School!
Thank you for your assistance in this matter!
Staff MVP of the Week ~ Mrs. Rachel Barker, 4th Grade Teacher
Mrs. Barker's family moved to Brownsburg the year before she went to 7th grade. After graduating Brownsburg High School she went to IUPUI for her teaching degree. She lives with her husband, Josh, their puppy, Cooper, and their Chinchilla, Mia.
Some of Mrs. Barker's Favorites
Movie- A League of Their Own
TV Show- Big Bang Theory
Book- A Tale of Despreaux
Music- Country
Flower- Lilly
Restaurant- P.F. Changs
Candy- Sour Patch Kids
Mrs. Barker enjoys reading even when she isn't at school! She loves to read books over her summer breaks... for fun, "I even read one over fall break!" Mrs. Barker says. And she cites Jamaica as the most interesting place she has visited.
What is a teacher / student moment you remember fondly? "One year I was putting in a lot of effort with my special education students. She worked hard and we were making a lot of progress. One day she told the special education teacher “You know, I think Miss Waltz was special education when she was in school.” The other teacher wanted to know more and she asked, “Why?” The student responded with the sweetest thing, “Well she really gets me so I know that she must have had to work hard like I do when she was in school.”
As a fourth grade teacher, what advice do you have for parents on how they can be involved in their child’s education? "The best thing you can do for a fourth grader is help them be organized and teach them how to study for a test. Fourth graders are getting older and will need to be able to accomplish those things on their own in a couple years"
Fellow 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Jennifer Gray says,
I am very thankful to have Rachel on my team. Rachel will do anything to see her students succeed. She genuinely cares about each student. Rachel is creative and is always thinking of new ideas. She is a great team player!"

Transportation Arrival & Dismissal Info
All car riders arriving in the morning should be dropped off in our car rider lane NOT in our Visitor Parking lot. This ensures they are not crossing over any traffic.
Late Arrivals:
If you child is being dropped off late an adult must come into the office and sign them in.
Student Arrivals (bus riders):
If your child rides the bus to school and will be eating breakfast in the cafeteria please talk to them about going straight to the cafeteria to get their breakfast. This will give them the most time to eat as healthy of a breakfast as possible.Dismissal Changes:
- If you need to change your child's dismissal instructions the best way to do this is to send a signed note to your child's teacher.
- If this is impossible please call the office NO LATER THAN 2:30 p.m. to ensure the dismissal change gets to your child's teacher in a timely matter.
Transportation:
If you are permanently changing how your child goes home or if you move please notify our office at 317-839-4802, as well as Transportation at 317-838-3632, and submit a new Transportation Form to the office.
