Principal's Weekly Update
Term 4 Week 1
RAISE Goal: to wear my school hat when I’m outside
Te reo phrase of the week: whakamaua tō potae (put on your hat)
Kia ora,
Welcome to the start of Term 4! All of our students have had a great week back at school, catching up with their friends and setting learning goals for the term. It has been fantastic to see them playing a variety of games outside. We also have our dedicated touch coaches coming in to school to run lunchtime practises on the school field.
Hats
Please remember that your child/ren need to wear their school hats this term. Every new student at Matapu School receives a new school hat free of charge, kindly funded by our SPA Committee. If your child has lost their school hat, please see Emma at the office to purchase a new one.
Working Bee
The BOT are holding a working bee to get the school looking its best before pet day. This will be on Tuesday 20th October from 10am until 12:30pm, if you can come along and help and bring a wheelbarrow, shovel or rake it would be much appreciated.
Hangi
After our school prize giving on Wednesday 18th November we will again be having a hangi. This is a huge undertaking and with even more students attending Matapu School this year, we will definitely need community support. In the coming weeks a letter will be sent home detailing a food item to bring into school on the day of the hangi for our students to prepare.
Teachers Only Day
Please remember that on Friday 23rd October it is a teachers only day. The students have been given a number of projects to complete at home for Pet Day so this could be a good time to get stuck into them. We have Pet Profiles, Lego Creations, Miniature Farms, and Cake Decorating for them to participate in. Your child has received a paper flyer today regarding these entries.

Room 1
Welcome back to Term 4. It is so lovely to have all our happy smiling faces back again, pumped and eager to learn. We are heading into a very busy, very exciting term.
To start us off, all of the students in Room One are signed up to Maths Whizz. This is an online based programme that assesses where a student is at with their maths and helps to fill any gaps that they may have. The programme teaches a concept and then assesses the students knowledge before moving on. The students can earn gems, choose their avatar and see how they are progressing all within the app. Everyone has a log in that they can bring home with them to practise for homework. It is very important that you do not help your child with the answers, by all means do feel free to help them learn the concept, but when they are in the assessment part of the programme, do not assist them or the programme will get an inaccurate result for them and move them on before they have truly understood or learned the concept.
