Micro Elementary Parent Newsletter
January 6th, 2020
Message from Principal Parrish
The below message was shared in our November Newsletter but I wanted to include it again so that all parents were aware. A letter detailing our drill will be sent out the first week in January along with a permission form. We would like 100% participation of our K-5 students!
I would also like to take this opportunity to stress the importance of consistent student attendance. Overall student attendance is an area of potential improvement for Micro Elementary as a school. Parents can support this process by helping their students limit unexcused absences, tardies, and early check outs that are not medically related. Consistent student attendance can be a strong contributor to improved student performance.
Thank you!
Mr. Parrish
Micro Elementary Evacuation Drill
School safety is a point of emphasis for Micro Elementary and Johnston County Public Schools. On January 23rd, Micro Elementary will conduct a campus evacuation drill. The drill will entail our K-5 students traveling by bus to North Johnston Middle School. We will briefly stage in the NJMS gym and then return to Micro Elementary. The point of the drill is to practice leaving campus in an orderly and timely manner in case an issue ever required us to do so. A letter and "field trip permission form" will go out in December with all K-5 students. Pre-K students will not participate. Students who are not participating will remain at school and engage in a typical school activity. For the last several months, we have planning and preparing with the JCPS Transportation Department, the Johnston County Sheriff's Office, Micro PD, Micro FD, and Kenly PD. A Connect Ed phone call will go out the week that the permission forms are sent home. We are hoping to have as many students participate as possible. The drill will be a valuable experience for students and school staff. It will help us all be better prepared in the event of an emergency.
