From the Principal's Desk
Hello FDES Families,
Our Sun Run Fundraiser was in full action this week! Students continued to enjoy the daily prizes! Today, our awesome PTA held the Fun Run for all grade levels. Our students had a blast! (See Sun Run Photos Below). Thank you to everyone for your support in raising funds for 2 sun shades to be installed on our playground. Again, this will provide much needed relief for our students on hot days.
On another note, we are continually integrating technology skills in instruction. Technology is fully integrated in Pre K and Kindergarten through 5th grade classrooms. This week, fourth graders used Inspiration Software to demonstrate their knowledge of food chains. Students added text and pictures to complete their projects. Fifth graders used Chromebooks to complete a Document-Based Writing activity centered around Plant Classification. Students identified characteristics of a plant and gave a description of what made the plant vascular or non-vascular. Great work students! (See photos below).
In closing, I am continually reminded that our greatest resource in our schools and communities is each other. Together we create a school we all love. Please feel free to reach out to us! We look forward to continued feedback and collaboration.
Together Everyone Achieves More = TEAM!

Walk to School Day
FDES participated in the National Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 2, 2019. Our students celebrated the benefits of walking and cycling. Our awesome PTA distributed water, bananas, and granola bars to all children who walked to school. Our mascot Paws was on hand to welcome the students and take pictures. What a great way to start the day!
On Friday, October 18th we will be participating in Falcon’s Friday! Students are encouraged to wear their Atlanta Falcon’s gear or red and black. Students will receive special treats sent from the Atlanta Falcons.
On Thursday, October 31st, 2019 we will be participating in Book Character Dress Up day. Students may pay $1 and dress up as their favorite book character. Money collected will be donated to the United Way campaign. We are asking students to bring the book from their character to school on that day. Unfortunately, full face make-up, masks, or props are not allowed. We look forward to seeing students dressed as their favorite book character!
