Updates from Nurse Dunlap
Quarantine Policy - So far we have had 4 on campus positive cases. If your child is identified as a close contact and has to be quarantined, please remember that in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and the Delta variant, it is imperative that your child quarantine EVERY DAY. This means your child who has been exposed MUST stay at home. Do NOT go to the store, shopping, to parties, to the park, to a friend’s house or any other places during quarantine. Again, please do not visit others in person during quarantine. In order to return on day 8, proof of negative test results must be sent to myself and/or Ms. Medrano. If you would like to waive testing, proof of testing is not required to return on day 11. Please let me know if you plan to waive testing.
COVID Testing - For the safety of our staff and students, I will not be testing students who are symptomatic and off campus. Testing is reserved for symptomatic students already on campus, and those testing for quarantine purposes (who are also not symptomatic). Testing will NOT be available on weekends. Please call BEFORE you bring your child for quarantine testing. I will not be quarantine testing between the hours of 10:30am and 1:30pm, as that is when clinic traffic is extremely high.
Immunizations - A new month brings another round of immunization delinquency letters. We are currently at 90%. Middle school compliance is 79%. Elementary compliance is 97%. Most middle schoolers need Tdap and Meningococcal immunizations. DISD policy requires exclusion from school if immunization criteria are not met by October 31st. This was not in place last year due to COVID. If you have already reached out to me about immunization delinquencies, I apologize in advance if you receive another letter. If you need to file an exemption affidavit, you can do so here. They need to be renewed every 2 years. If you need resources for vaccines, or have any questions regarding compliance, please reach out to me. There are many free immunization clinics around the metroplex. You can find the DISD immunization policy and requirements here.
PLEASE KEEP YOUR KIDS HOME IF THEY ARE SICK. Threw up this morning before school and doesn’t feel better after? Keep them home. Headache, cough, and sore throat? Keep them home. Fever and/or diarrhea? Keep them home, and they can’t return until fever/diarrhea free for at least 24 hours without the use of medication.
Office hours - My office hours are Monday through Friday 7:45am - 3:45pm. That being said, it is a small miracle when I am able to leave the office on time. Please do not block the entrances to the staff parking lot in the carpool lane.
Important Carpool Update
You may have heard that our PTA has purchased the construction of new awnings to cover our arrival and dismissal areas --thank you PTA! Construction will begin on Monday (9/27), and this means there will be a few changes to carpool. Please spread the word and share in your weekend communication to your class. (Link to a google doc here)
The car line by the tennis courts will not be used for pickups. That portion of the line will only be used for cars to exit. Cars waiting for pickup should not pass the main crosswalk (grey area in visual).
All students will wait and enter their cars in the first portion of the carpool line (as shown below).
Only the right lane will be utilized for students entering cars. The left lane will be for passing.
Please pull as far forward in the carpool lane so as not to leave space between you and the car In front of you. Students will proceed forward to meet you.
Walkers will still meet their families at the Northaven trail. Do NOT utilize the Lavendale crosswalk for student pickup. This is for the safety of students, given busses line up there.
