Coding Grant For St. Louis School
St. Louis School received a grant from Ripley Youth Outreach through the Ripley County Community Foundation for the purchase of Cubelets. Cubelets are a set of cubes with each conducting a different function, all with the purpose of helping students learn to code. Programing Cubelets requires students to use logical thinking, patterns, and sequencing as they problem solve to create new robots. The St. Louis Fourth Grade want to thank the Youth Outreach and RCCF for their support.

A BIG Thank You from Mrs. Giesting!
I have been so blessed with so many generous gifts from so many families to purchase or obtain ALP supplies. These gifts are from ALP families and some are from friends of SLS and the SLS community! I started writing thank you notes and will try to get more out, but since some gifts are from people I do not know and some gifts are from anonymous donors, I just wanted to let everyone know that I appreciate you so very much! Thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU!!
My Amazon Wishlist updates every week or two. If you want to purchase an item for our class (ranging from a couple dollars to nearly $100), go here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/dl/invite/6hcjd1Q
I also can use an Amazon or Kroger gift card to make the purchases myself (ingredients I typically buy at Kroger because they cost much less than they do on Amazon, but you may see it appear on my Amazon Wishlist.)
Again, thank you all for making ALP a fun and educational program for our kids!
God Bless You!

Polar Express Day
On Wednesday, Dec. 19, St. Louis School held their third annual Polar Express Day. The night before, teachers in grades K-2 as well as several parent volunteers worked to transform the hallway entrance into the Polar Express.
Students and guests entered to a train tunnel complete with tracks, train windows looking out to Christmas scenery, Santa, the Nutcracker and the Polar Express train at the end of the “tunnel.” It was so wonderful hearing parents and students say how magical the hallway looked! Every student, no matter the grade level, enjoyed walking down the hallway that day and it sparked excitement for all children. Students were able to wear their PJ’s to school as part of the experience. Throughout the day, students took part in reading, math, and writing activities as part of their Polar Express celebration. In addition, kindergarteners went out into the hallway and added their own personal touches to the hallway scenery with drawings of snowflakes, trains, Christmas trees and other holiday pictures. Visitors came to St. Louis to experience the magical hallway, too!
Before topping off the day by watching The Polar Express with cookies and hot chocolate, students were able to have their ticket punched by “the conductor,” Mr. Moeller. And the BEST part of the whole day was when Santa surprised our class (and teachers) with bells delivered straight from the North Pole!!! You should have seen the looks on their faces when they found their gifts. Priceless!!!
We had such a great time organizing and decorating. It was even better to see how much our students enjoyed the day. We all felt like we were kids again. We had so much fun and can’t wait for the Polar Express to return next year!

Nurse's News
With flu season upon us, please take note of the St. Louis wellness policy. If your child has had an episode of vomiting, fever, or diarrhea in the last 24 hours, please do not send them to school. They must have been free of these symptoms for 24 hours while free of medicine. Our school policy (and other surrounding schools) describe a temperature of 100.0 or higher as a fever, especially if the child has other symptoms. We will send children home if they register a fever. We will do our best to keep your child at school for minor issues, but we also want to take into account others who might have more serious complications if they should come down with an illness such as the flu or a stomach virus.
Also, Please reinforce the practice of hand washing at home to help prevent illness. St. Louis appreciates everyone’s help in keeping our kids and staff healthy! The wellness policy can be found in it’s entirety on our website. Feel free to consult as needed or call the school nurse if you have any questions. Thank you!
