For the fourth year in a row, Neshaminy has once again been named an Outstanding Visual Arts Community by the Pennsylvania Art Education Association (PAEA). To earn this honor in 2022, school districts must have demonstrated the following during the 2021-2022 school year:
- Rigorous and Inclusive Programs: Arts programs demonstrated rigor using a standards-based curriculum taught at every level by highly qualified and certified art educators.
- Highly Accessible Programs: Art programs were offered to all students at every level of education with a sustainable budget for the visual arts.
- Highly Visible Programs: Schools and districts identified their programmatic accomplishments, curriculum for all levels, art staff, mission statements, and arts events using their school websites and social media.

Earlier this year, the Neshaminy music program was also recognized as one of the "Best Communities for Music Education" from the NAMM Foundation. That marks the fifth year in a row that the District has received that honor.
Starting Monday, October 3, 2022, school breakfast will be served free of charge to all students at Neshaminy School District. Though the pandemic-era Federal program that made school meals free for all students has ended, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has appropriated funds to ensure that all students can enjoy a free breakfast at least through the end of the 2022-2023 school year.
Menus for breakfast options can be found on the District's website, www.neshaminy.org.
For lunches, the Free & Reduced Lunch Program is available to assist families that meet income qualification guidelines with the cost of those meals. For information and application materials, please visit https://www.neshaminy.org/Page/27732.
Online registration through School Cafe is encouraged, but families can still apply using paper forms which are available on the District website and at each school Main Office. Families must apply for this program each school year to maintain eligibility.

HERE COMES THE BUS
The free Here Comes the Bus app is available for the entire District. You can track your student's bus using up-to-the-minute GPS data using the app, which is available at the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. It can also be accessed on the web here. Neshaminy's school code is 29378. For the start of the 2022-2023 school year, individual student tracking will not be implemented, and students will not have to swipe cards to board buses. This feature may be added at a later date.

Speaking of mobile apps, don't forget that Neshaminy also has a free District app that is also available at the Apple App Store and Google Play. You can customize the app to receive your student's information, calendar listings, notifications, emergency alerts and more.
Neshaminy is pleased to welcome back Dr. Kevin Kane as the new Director of Pupil Services for Neshaminy School District. Dr. Kane brings a wealth of experience as a teacher and administrator in special education and pupil services in Mount Union School District, Radnor Township School District, the Delaware County Intermediate Unit and our very own Neshaminy Pupil Services Department where he served as Director from 2004-2011. He received his Doctor of Education from Widener University, his Masters of Education in Instruction and Learning from the University of Pittsburgh, and his Bachelors degree in psychology from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is on the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Council for Exceptional Children as vice-president and will assume the role of president in 2024
Dr. Kane replaced Anthony Devlin on September 22. Mr. Devlin joined the Pupil Services Department at Council Rock School District.
UPCOMING MEETINGS
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 7 pm (delayed one day due to the Rosh Hashanah holiday) in the District Board Room at Maple Point. The October Public Work Session is scheduled for Tuesday, October 10, 7 pm in the District Board Room at Maple Point. SCHOOL BOARD VACANCY
The Board accepted the resignation of School Board member Stephen Linden (Region 1) at the September Public Work Session. Mr. Linden was appointed to replace Board Member Stephen Pirritano, who resigned in April. Mr. Linden stated that he had to resign due to moving out of the District unexpectedly.
Neshaminy is accepting letters of interest and/or resumes to be considered for the appointment of the vacancy from Region 1 on the Board of Directors. Interested individuals should submit a letter and resume no later than Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at 5:00 PM, to:

Board committee meetings are open to the public and are a good opportunity to discuss specific programs and projects with committee members in a less formal, more conversational setting than the full Board meetings. The following committees will meet during the school year:

Neshaminy High School students and their families are urged to check out the newsletter linked below that is produced by the Counseling Center. It contains important information about SAT and PSAT test registration and dates, College Financial Aid Night on Wednesday, October 19, Naviance, transcripts and more.
The Neshaminy Education Foundation is holding their annual Eagles ticket raffle this month. They have two seats to the Eagles-Packers game on Sunday, November 27 (lower level, section 112) and some Eagles logo items. Chances are $5 each or 10 for $20. The drawing will be held November 4 and the winner notified by phone.
Raffle tickets can be purchased at Neshaminy home football games. Additional sale opportunities will be announced in October. Online ticket sales are not available for this fundraiser.
The Neshaminy Education Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer organization devoted to supporting innovative educational initiatives in our Neshaminy schools and scholarships for graduating NHS seniors. The NEF was created as part of the District's Comprehensive Plan in 1993, and they are celebrating their 30th anniversary in 2023. They are planning special fundraisers and events during the upcoming school year to mark this milestone.

On September 15, the Albert Schweitzer community took part in a C.A.R.E.S. Welcome Back picnic for students and families. It was hosted by the school's C.A.R.E.S. Committee, which is part of their School-Wide Positive Behavioral and Intervention Supports (SWPBIS) program. At Schweitzer, they pride themselves on working together with students, staff and families to communicate expectations in the school community and supporting their students so they are ready for learning each day. Families were encouraged to bring a blanket and a picnic dinner. Delicious food was also available including the ‘Kona Ice’ and 'The Rooster and the Chick' food truck. The SWPBIS Committee also held a 50/50 and donated $147 of the proceeds to ‘Sara’s Fight for the Kids’ to help raise awareness for childhood cancer to support our recent Spirit Week of ‘Neshaminy Goes Gold!"
The PTO at Walter Miller ES sponsored a welcome back outdoor ice cream social on the evening of September 14. This was an opportunity for students, their families and school staff to start the school year off right with a variety of activities and games.

Students who completed the District's summer reading and math programs were recognized and treated to some special snacks and prizes. At Herbert Hoover ES, students who completed their assignments and turned in the worksheets were invited to a pretzel party and entered into a raffle for some prizes such as Hoover t-shirts.
The first-grade at Pearl S. Buck ES held a Super Kids Day in September. Students dressed up as their favorite characters and enjoyed other fun activities related to Neshaminy's Super Kids reading program.
The library media specialists at Neshaminy have put together a list of the first six Book Fairs being held throughout the District this fall. Elementary and middle school students will have to opportunity to browse hundreds of titles in school; purchases can also be made online and shipped free for orders over $25. Neshaminy High School will once again hold their Book Fair at the Neshaminy Mall Barnes & Noble in December.
The Book Fairs build excitement for reading, and all purchases also earn rewards for the schools.
Students across the District celebrated Constitution Day with a variety of activities designed to reinforce knowledge of the U.S. Constitution. Students at Carl Sandburg Middle School enjoyed a Constitution-themed live game show, "Are You Smarter than your Teacher?" A small team of students from each grade were pitted against a team of their teachers and had to answer questions related to the Constitution.
Students at Poquessing Middle School and Maple Point Middle School participated in scavenger hunts and online quiz tournaments. At Poquessing students were encouraged to dress in red, white and blue clothing as part of the celebration.
In late August, the choir members participated in a three-day summer camp at the school. This camp offered the students a fun way to get together with their friends and get ready for a busy school year of rehearsals and performances. After the final day they enjoyed a picnic dinner and games at Core Creek Park.

The Neshaminy faithful showed up in multitudes for the first varsity football game of the season at Ocean City High School on August 26. Playing against a colorful backdrop of a working Ferris Wheel and other Ocean City amusement park rides, the Skins beat the non-league Ocean City Raiders 21-0. The game was part of a weekend-long tournament, the Battle at the Beach that included teams from both the Philadelphia area and South Jersey.
The first home game was held Friday, September 23 when Neshaminy notched a 26-0 shutout. The game featured the Football Hall of Fame Inductees, First Responder Night, and Summer Youth Football and Cheerleading Camp Night. The final three home games of the season will take place in October; Homecoming is scheduled for Friday, October 14.
Video of selected fall sports games (football, soccer, field hockey) played in Harry E. Franks Stadium are posted on the Neshaminy HS website. The video is captured by a new automated camera installed in the stadium in the spring.
