Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year!
Happy August, Albert Schweitzer students and families!
We are gearing up for a fabulous 2021-2022 school year. Office and custodial staff have been working diligently throughout the summer to prepare our building and classrooms for the upcoming school year. We're excited to have students back to in-person learning 5 days a week! Classrooms will be returning back to a more traditional set-up including typical classroom spacing and lunch/recess expectations and schedules back to how they were pre-pandemic. Be sure to click on our current 2021-2022 Neshaminy SD Health & Safety Plan below.
This year we will continue with our School-Wide Positive Behavior Support System (CARES), we will be in our second year of full implementation of Ready Math, and this year all elementary buildings will be aligning our practices to the MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) model to identify and support students in areas of need at all levels including academic, social/emotional, and behavioral.
On August 31st, we will host an Open House for students in Grades 1 through 4 from 9:30 am-10:30 am and a Kindergarten Orientation from 1:30 pm-2:30 pm. To help students feel comfortable and prepared for the school year, please be sure to join us for these special events where children will get to meet their teacher(s) and get more familiar with Albert Schweitzer Elementary. We hope to see you there!
To continue to build our home/school partnerships, I will work to communicate, communicate, communicate to help answer any questions you may have and guide in understanding building and district expectations to help our children be successful and happy learners. Be sure to read our Lions Den newsletters and community emails for information and updates.
I look forward to a successful school year together!

Albert Schweitzer Elementary Information
Below are some highlighted items that might be helpful as we begin the new year.
Safety Information—During school hours all exterior doors are locked. All visitors using the main entrance are required to ring the buzzer, show their Driver's License, sign-in at the office, and wear a visitor’s badge.
Absent Notes—Upon your child’s return to school, and within three days of an absence, notes should be returned to your child’s homeroom teacher. If a note is not received within three days, the absence becomes unlawful or unexcused. When children accumulate more than three unlawful absences, state law requires that they be identified as truant, and the parents become liable for the absences of the students (Neshaminy School Board Policy #204).
Family Trip Requests—Please complete the 'Family Trip Request Form' if you plan on taking a trip during regularly scheduled school days. School Board Policy states that 5 days per year may be approved for family trips. Any days beyond the initial five days per year will be considered unexcused absences.
Drop-Off and Dismissal—Arrival begins at 8:50 AM until instruction begins at 9:10 AM. For the safety of our students, we ask that you sign your children in at the office if they arrive to school after 9:10 AM. Please do not drop your students off prior to 8:50 AM as our staff supervision does not begin until then. Dismissal begins at 3:35 PM. Typically buses have left the building by 3:50 PM.
REMINDER: Summer Learning Opportunities for Elementary Students
Summer slide or Summer learning loss is the loss of academic skills and knowledge over the course of lengthy summer break. To ensure students are engaged in learning during the summer break, the following activities and incentives have been planned for all elementary students.
Summer Learning with i-Ready:
This past school year has made student summer learning needs complex. In order to address individual learning needs, Neshaminy has extended our i-Ready access into the summer. Using i-Ready My Path students will be provided with personalized instruction throughout the summer. All students can continue to access I-Ready using Clever throughout the Summer.
As a District, we are encouraging students to complete reading and math lessons on their individual i-Ready My Path throughout the summer. Students are encouraged to spend thirty minutes a week in both Reading and Math with a goal of completing 10 lessons in each area. A My Path Tracker is included in the newsletter for children to use throughout the summer.
Every student that participates in i-Ready lessons this summer will be entered into a grade level raffle when they return in September as well as receive an i-Ready pencil and sticker.
For any family that would prefer access to printable packets this summer, grade level Math activity packets and Reading Bingo Boards are included in our Summer Newsletter included at the end of this letter for access throughout the summer.
Summer Reading:
In addition, this year Neshaminy continues to make the Elementary Summer Reading lists accessible through the Sora app. With Sora, you can get free eBooks and audio books to enjoy at home over the summer. Students can access Sora and the Reading Lists using the Clever and the 2021 Canvas SummerReading Course. All students received an invitation to the Summer Reading Canvas Course during the last week of school.
Please use the link below to access Neshaminy’s Elementary Summer Newsletter which includes access to the i-Ready My Path Tracker, printables, and a few additional activities. The Summer Learning Opportunities outlined above as well as in the newsletter will provide our elementary students with a variety of reading and math activities to close the gaps as well as challenge them in preparation of the upcoming school year.

Reedman-Toll Subaru, our local Subaru retailer, selected our school for this year’s Subaru Loves Learning initiative, which focuses on supporting education in local communities. Our school received a $3,000 credit through the nonprofit AdoptAClassroom.org so we can purchase the supplies our students need to succeed! We are proud to be one of 600 schools nationwide selected by Subaru retailers in support of more than 114,000 students. We look forward to an even stronger partnership with Reedman-Toll Subaru in the weeks to come.
