Prestons Post
Term 1, Week 5

Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to our Week 5 newsletter. We have had another wonderful week of learning at Prestons and we can't wait to meet all of our families at the Meet the Teacher BBQ next Wednesday. Our BBQ will be held from 3.30- 4.30 and there will be opportunities for families to meet their child's teacher and spend some time mingling with teachers and families from our school. We are very thankful to Fettayleh Foods who have generously donated some sausages for this event.
Professional Learning for our teachers
Our teachers are dedicated to delivering quality teaching to all of their students. It is important that we continue to grow and learn as well so that our students always receive evidence based, quality learning experiences. All teachers in the Department of Education receive release from face to face teaching time and professional learning time. This time is embedded into our school timetable to allow the teachers to continue to learn, evaluate student assessment data and plan quality lessons together in grade teams. Your child's teacher may be off class during these times, however, we have great structures at Prestons to ensure that our RFF teachers also know, value and care for our students. This means that the RFF teacher your child has will mostly be the same, regular teacher who delivers the same quality teaching and learning. We are very proud of the high quality teachers and their ongoing commitment to improving the learning and wellbeing of every child, every day.
PSSA
PSSA started today, we had bus loads of very excited students ready to represent their school at PSSA. A reminder that full school uniform, including the school hat must be worn by all students participating in PSSA. This assists us with safety, ensuring that students are easily identified while out of our school. Thank you for assisting us with this important expectation.
.
Parent Forum
Next Thursday Mrs Lloyd will be hosting a parent forum. Please come along as we would love to hear your thoughts on the new behaviour policy from the department as well as help us to plan for our updated homework policy.
5 Questions that parents can ask their children are:
- What did you learn today?
- How did you do?
- What did you do if you didn't understand?
- How can you improve your learning?
- What are you most proud of?
Have a wonderful weekend and don't forget to ask your child what they are learning at school.

Classroom Chat with 1 Tigers
Roaring into 1 Tigers
This year, 1 Tigers are super excited to learn in one of our new buildings with all of Year 1! We share a classroom space with 1 Famingoes and Mrs Quinn and have nicknamed ourselves the'Tigoes'.
We have been super busy getting to know each other, making friends and settling into Year 1 life. We are enjoying all of our new learning spaces such as campfires and caves, where we can learn in bigger groups, small groups, with a partner or independently.
We continue to increase our stamina when we do read to self, work on spelling and work on writing! We are always so proud when we get to colour in the higher minutes on our stamina chart!
We have been very busy during phonics groups learning to segment and blends words to help us read and write.
This week in Mathematics we are looking at 2D shapes and identifying their attributes.
We cannot wait to see where the year will take us!
Until next time, 1 Tigers
Classroom Chat with 3 Jellyfish
Dive into an adventure with 3 jellyfish.
Welcome to our first term together as 3 Jellyfish! We have been very busy settling in, making new friends, and getting to know all our wonderful peers.
Students in 3 jellyfish have been super excited as they’ve launched into outer space and are on a mission exploring the solar system.
They have participated in many interesting and inspiring discussions within our class campfire and continue to do so with refreshing enthusiasm.
We have loved integrating our term topic within the different subject areas of spelling, writing and even art! 3 jellyfish have been super proud of all the work that they have done and cannot wait to share some of them with you soon.
Please have a look at some of the amazing work completed by the students.
Miss Karezi says it’s out of this world!
