What a great first 9 weeks we have had at the elementary school. We continue to adapt together as a team and I cannot thank everyone enough for that.
The office is currently open from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm at the elementary.
We will begin to have different grade-level concerts throughout the year. Please refer to the letter from Mrs. Knight that was sent home to parents about our concerts during the school year.

Parents, please return all school forms ASAP. These are essential to ensure we have the most up-to-date information for your child. Thank you for your continued support in filling these forms out for us.

Career Development:
November is career development month! I will be spotlighting a different career on my door each school day in November! Ask your students about the things they love to do. Knowing how to identify interests and hobbies can give them clues to finding their future career.
In the Classroom:
Here are some of the things that we are talking about during our twice a month counseling lessons.
Kindergarten: Mistakes are OK! and Practice Makes Better!
1st Grade: Practicing to get better at new things & Helpful thoughts that will encourage them to keep trying!
2nd Grade: The difference between helpful and unhelpful thoughts & How we can change them!
3rd Grade: Other ways to improve a new skill (learning from others and trying something different) & How to make a practice plan
4th Grade: Determining our learning style & How to use it to study
5th Grade: Determining our learning style & How to use it to study
I'm very proud of the progress that our students are making to have healthy & happy minds!

2021 NES Veterans Day Recognition
Norwayne Elementary
Veterans Day Celebration
This year we will be celebrating Veterans Day a little differently. The three Norwayne Schools will be doing a combined Veterans Day appreciation with involvement from The National Honor Society students and some elementary students. Mr. Dreher will read the names of all the Veterans in a small ceremony while being recorded. The recording will be shown at the elementary later that day as well as be put on our Norwayne Local Schools website on November 11, 2021, in honor of Veterans Day.
In addition to the announcement ceremony, the students at NES will be honoring the Veterans by conducting a drive-through parade for any veteran that would like to participate. The parade will take place in the parent pick-up loop as the students will line the driveway with signs and cheers. The parade will begin at 1:30 pm and we ask for those participating to come to the back of the high school between 1:00 pm and 1:15 pm before driving over to the new parent parking lot at NES. We will have staff arranged at the high school to help navigate and start the parade. We will not begin the parade until 1:30 pm. At the conclusion of the parade, veterans may return to the elementary school to sign out their students as we have in the past.
Norwayne Elementary students are asked to “invite” family members that have served/are serving our country to have their name read as we honor America and say “Thank You” to our veterans. We also encourage our veterans to participate in the parade at 1:30 pm.
Please send the sign-up paper, back to school filled out with information if you know of a veteran that wishes to be recognized. There are two separate spaces to fill out. One for the ceremony name reading and a second for the parade at NES. By filling out the information and submitting it to the school you are giving permission that their name and information be posted to our school website.
Please return the form to school by Thursday, November 4th, 2021, to ensure that your Veteran can be recognized.
In memory of many, In honor of all,
Thank you
Veterans Day Parade Ceremony @ NES
(Please note the parade will not begin until 1:30 pm and those participating are asked to meet at the back of the high school between 1:00 pm and 1:15 pm where staff will be to navigate and begin. The parade will have cars drive through the new parent parking lot/loop at NES. Students will be outside with signs and smiles thanking our Veterans)

Norwayne Masks Update as of November 1, 2021
- For the 2021-2022 school year, students/families will have the option to choose what they would like to do with mask-wearing when on Norwayne grounds.
- The one exception remains with bus transportation. Students will be required to wear masks while being transported on school busses.
****Please note that we can update the mask stance at any time as we continue to listen and follow mandates from the governor and health departments as new information is made available during the pandemic.

NEW Parent Drop Off and Pick Up for 2021-2022
A few important notes for morning drop off:
Our morning drop-off routine is running very smoothly. Thank you to Officer Hartman and the parents for hopping on the double line-up system allowing us to get more cars in the loop and away from Route 3. Please refer to the picture below in regards to the two-lane system. Parents, please be cognizant of the curb we are acquiring some damage as tires grind against the concrete.
- Students being dropped off or riding their bikes will be allowed to enter the building at 8:40 am, as we did last year. They will not be permitted to stand outside and wait for the cafeteria doors to open.
- During the morning drop-off time, when exiting the parking lot, cars will only be allowed to make a right-hand turn. This is something we did last year, and it helped reduce the congestion and improve the flow of traffic.
- We ask that you do not park in the drop-off loop. If you need to park to bring something to the office or walk your child to the door, this needs to occur in the parking spaces. This way, the loop will not become clogged as it is a single-car loop.
- Students are able to exit their cars only if they are parked along the curb. Please do not get out of the car in the grass at this time. Use the crosswalk as the cut-off for now.
- Please make sure to pull all the way up so we can ensure we get as many cars on the curb as possible.
A few important notes for parent pick up:
We would like the parents to know we appreciate your patience in the afternoon as the afternoon pick-up crew works tirelessly to ensure we have a quick, efficient, and above all else safe system in place for the children. We are averaging 70+ cars at the end of the day can you believe that! Parents, please be cognizant of the curb we are acquiring some damage as tires grind against the concrete.
- Pick-up will occur as it has in the past, except for the one-direction loop we will now have.
- We ask parents to remain in their cars as staff will walk students to their cars to ensure safety.
- During pick-up times, cars will only be able to make a right-hand turn when exiting the parking lot. Again this helps with reducing congestion and improving the flow of traffic.
- As you drive by the crosswalk please have your window down to let Mrs. Knight or one of the other workers know who you are there to pick up.
- We appreciate the parents working quickly to help buckle their children.
