Isaac Castle News
March 1, 2023
We almost made it! Spring is about three weeks away and we had our first real threat of snow on Tuesday, February 28. The near arrival of warmer weather also reminds us that we are over halfway through the 2022-2023 school year. The third marking period progress reports are scheduled to be posted on Home Access on March 7. They should arrive via the postal service around March 10. Please contact your child's teachers or school counselor if your child is showing signs of academic failure or struggle.
PAVE auditions will be held at IEYMS for acting, vocal, band, orchestra, and dance on Wednesday, March 1-Monday, March 6. Students who submitted applications have been notified of their audition date. Due to the inclement weather, dance auditions have been moved to Monday, March 6, 2023. Please contact Deepak Marwah, the Director of PAVE if you have additional questions.

Finally, as a reminder, students are expected to be in school on time each day. When students are late to school, they lose valuable instructional time which can lead to low grades or course failure. Grade 6 period one begins at 8:05 and grades 7 and 8 begin at 8:25. Thank you for your continued cooperation in ensuring that your child arrives at school on time for the first period.

IEY Learns about the Tradition of the Chinese New Year
Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 were treated to a special assembly in celebration of the Chinese New year. Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company members performed, The Story of Nian and The Origin of Chinese Lunar New Year Customs. "Using colorful costumes, bright props, music, acrobatics, and dance, Nai-Ni Chen shared the story of the origins of the first Chinese Lunar New Year. In this legend, a group of villagers working and dancing together defeated the most terrifying monster of all ages. The story highlighted the value of collaboration, courage, hard work, and creativity. Students also learned why the color red is an important component of the Chinese New Year." The study of Ancient Civilizations is part of the grade 6 New York State social studies curriculum. Throughout middle school and into high school, students will continue to learn about different cultures and their collective contributions to a global society. A few of our students who are learning Mandarin had the opportunity to greet the performers. Thank you, Mr. Loosen, Social Studies teacher, for organizing this wonderful event.
