Welcome to the Woodland Park School District e-Newsletter which is sent out weekly when school is in session. It serves as a glimpse of some of the wonderful things going on in our schools, as well as a point of reference for upcoming events.

Learning About Life Cycles
Mrs. Guariglia’s Pre-K 3 class at School 1 released butterflies for a science lesson about the life cycle of butterflies.

Measuring The Weather
Ms. Miranda's third grade class at Beatrice Gilmore School learned about the tools needed to measure the weather. As a result, the students created anemometers! Cups, straws, push pins and pencils were used to make the devices. After all projects were created, the class tested the devices outside.

Brainstorming
Students in Ms. Capo's third grade class at Beatrice Gilmore School used the writing process to brainstorm, plan and develop fairy tales which will publish later this month.

Detecting Density
Ms. Scillieri's fifth grade STEM enrichment students at Beatrice Gilmore School have been working on a unit on density. During a recent session, the class practiced solving for density by creating "salty straws." Students completed a demo inquiry tp determine which saltwater solution was the least to most dense and if layers could be created.

Learning The Meaning
Students in Mrs. Brink's virtual third grade class at Beatrice Gilmore School learned about the origins and meaning of Memorial Day. Students honored and commemorated those who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep us safe and free by creating posters and artwork to share and display in windows.

Grand Old Flag
Mrs. Casasnovas Pre-K 4 class at School 1 discussed the importance of Memorial Day and our American flag. The children then created their own flags!

Leadership Lessons
The Memorial Middle School Student Climate and Culture Team met with PVHS graduating senior students, Crystal Sandoval and Antonio Bargiel. These high school students shared their leadership experiences at the middle school and high school levels as well as the importance of involvement in the school community. Seven students from Beatrice Gilmore School joined the meeting in preparation of servinc on the team in the fall. Crystal and Antonio did a great job sharing their leadership experiences and how those experiences helped to shape who they are today and their futures.

Wrapping It Up
The Memorial School newspaper staff has published its last issue of The Memorial Times for the school year. Despite the challenges of being mostly remote for the year, the student staff, under the direction of Ms. Ament, published eight issues this school year. Check out the latest issue here.

Showing Their Support
Ms. Tonti’s first graders at Charles Olbon School learned about Memorial Day by listening to non-fiction books sharing facts about this very special holiday. In honor of the men and women who fought for our freedom, the students made a ribbon necklace and wore these proudly to support all soldiers. The class also took part in a sing-along of patriotic songs.

Remembering The Fallen
Members of Woodland Park’s Cub Scout Pack 31 and Boy Scout Troop 238 took part in Memorial Day services at the Borough’s Fireman's Memorial and Killed In Action Memorial.

Summer Camp Calendar Finalized
The 2021 Woodland Park Summer Camp activities calendar has been finalized! The staff is looking forward to a summer full of fun and awesome activities. It can also be found here. A reminder that regular camp registration ends on June 5. Camp runs from June 28 to Aug. 13. Registration and payment must be done online here. Learn About The Power Of Breakfast
Join Pomptonian for another educational edition of the Nutrition News with award-winning pediatrician, author, and keynote speaker, Dr. Jill Garripoli Pedalino.
Dr. Jill and Pomptonian's corporate dietitian, Toni Bowman, will be discussing the importance of fueling up every day before you head out the door with a nutritionally balanced meal. The Power of Breakfast video is available to view here.

PVHS celebrates 80th anniversary with three special events
Passaic Valley Regional High School is celebrating its 80th anniversary with its students, staff and the community. Next week, there are several special events.
On Monday, June 7, "A Legacy of Local Leadership" mayoral panel discussion will be available to view on TAPinto TV, PV's YouTube page and Vimeo channel. Mayor Keith Kazmark, Little Falls Mayor James Damiano and Totowa Mayor John Coiro are all PV graduates. They will discuss their experiences and their thoughts on the future of PV.
On Wednesday, June 9 at 7 p.m., the Little Falls Historical Society will present "A Historical Perspective of Passaic Valley High School" via Zoom. The Zoom code is 849 5544 2099 and the password is 700035
On Friday, June 11, at 11 a.m. a time capsule ceremony will be aired live on Vimeo, YouTube and Facebook.

Thursday, June 24, 4 p.m. - Summer Reading Kick-off with Dinosaurs Rock! at Dowling Gardens. Join in as we kick off "Tails & Tales," the summer reading program for 2021. Children of all ages are welcome to attend this educational and fun program, which includes real, genuine dinosaur artifacts from Dinosaurs Rock. Register here.
