Ruby Bridges - where the STARS come to shine!
Hello from the principal's desk!
Hello lovely Ruby community,
We had an AMAZING time at the STEAM Studio Grand Opening. We had our Superintendent Sean McPhetridge visit, along with a number of other AUSD district officials. Mayor Trish Spencer also stopped by! Look below for some pics. The kids and adults alike had a blast. Special thanks to Mandie Cline, our new STEAM teacher, who planned the event and got the room ready. She is a gem, well deserving of the Alameda Teacher of the Year award she received a few years back. Well deserved, we sure are lucky to have her!
We started our STAR rotations last week... talk to your learner about what they are working on in their rotation class. Hopefully, kids are enjoying these 30 minute Language Arts rotations, and learning a lot.
We have two big meetings come up next week... Wednesday, November 1st at 6:15 is our second PTA meeting of the year and Thursday, November 2nd is our first parent meeting for the 5th grade Science Camp! The Science Camp meeting is at 6:00 pm here at Ruby Bridges, in room 304. This is an important meeting, as we have a lot of work to do to fund raise the $25,000 we are going to need to go on this annual rite of passage. Please plan on coming and helping us... we REALLY need your support to make this happen!
Let's do this Ruby Bridges!

What an exciting week it has been! Classes have begun to rotate through the STEAM Studio and it has been a blast. Students have come in for a tour, learned about the Dojo class point system, and our new flexible seating. It’s been a riot letting students try out all of the seating options! Also, Ms Phan’s TK class got to draw on the chalk boards, while Ms. Weber’s class added pieces to the LEGO Wall. Other classes have been quite curious about the iPads, spheros, and Plasma Ball! More classes will filter through the Studio the rest of this week. Then we will be more than ready for our 1st official class projects on Monday! Finally, please come out Wednesday 10/25 for our Grand Opening, 1:20-3pm, and let your student give you a tour of the space! See you there!

Thoughts... w/ Mr. Lundholm
I’m seeing a lot of kids demonstrating the trait of the month: compassion. This week I saw kids helping each other tie their shoes, make it to the nurse’s office, and figure things out in the STEAM Lab. I also saw kids sharing balls and toys in the morning, and I noticed a lot of kids sharing their expertise with checkers and chess at lunch recess.
The STEAM Lab Grand Opening was awesome! Well attended and hopping. Kids were constructing, drawing, testing, building, problem-solving, experimenting, and helping each other figure things out. Very busy. Major props to our STEAM Coordinator, Mandie Cline.
Our parent liaison, Tamara Centeno has been busy meeting families, learning about resources, and making connections. She has also helped organize the “Coffee With the Principal” events.
Drop off has looked great! Thank you to everyone who is pulling up to the front, dropping kids off quickly, and not parking in the white lanes.
