Weekly Updates/Reminders
NEW INFORMATION
Transportation Update
Bus 219 will be picking up all bus 73 students for both AM/PM routes October 4th-8th.
- Students who normally ride bus 219 will be picked up by buses 23 or 205. Please have your child ready earlier for morning pickup this week.
- Bus 48 will continue being picked up at 3:40pm daily.
Theater
- The leadership team of Into the Woods, Jr. will hold audition workshops each Tuesday afternoon during the month of October. The workshops will run from 3:00pm-4pm in Mr. Wright's classroom and begins this Tuesday. Students in attendance will work together on the audition materials and familiarize themselves with the audition process.
Battle of the Books
- Our first Battle of the Books interest meeting will take place this Thursday, Oct. 7th, until 3:45PM in the Media Center. This is a perfect chance for your child to learn more about Battle of the Books and decide if he/she is interested in being a part of this team.
Athletics
- Our first home football game is this Wednesday, October 6th. Concessions will be open with pizza and snacks/drinks available. Tickets are $2.00 for students and $4.00 for adults. Rides should be here by 5:30pm.
- Southern Middle hosts golf and cross country Tuesday.
- Congratulations to our tennis and softball teams on their great seasons. Both teams finished with records of 3-2.
- If your child is interested in trying out for a winter sport (boys or girls basketball, wrestling, girls volleyball, or boys soccer), please create or verify your Planet HS account to make sure all documentation is up to date. Information will be coming soon regarding basketball and wrestling tryouts.
Dress Code
- We ask that you review the dress code with your child. In particular, students must wear clothing that covers their skin from chest to mid-thigh with opaque (non-see-through) fabric in front, back, and on the sides. For more detailed information, click on the link below to review the district's dress code policy.
OTHER INFORMATION
Not Feeling Well...
- Students who are not feeling well are asked to stay home. Staying home when sick is essential to keeping infections out of school and preventing spread to others.
Cell Phones
- Students are reminded each morning during announcements to turn off their cell phones and place them in their book bags. If there is an emergency and your child needs to contact you, he/she is allowed to come to the office to call. Same goes for you. Please call the office and we will be sure to get the message to your child.
Reminders for afternoon dismissal
- School dismisses at 3pm. 6th graders are picked up at the front of the school. 7th graders are picked up by the baseball field (enter at West Pine Elementary School). 8th graders are picked up in the back parking lot (staff parking area). Please note: once the 8th grade afternoon carline is at capacity, those cars will be asked to remain in the regular line until a staff member directs them to the back of the school.
- 8th grade cars are asked to use their right turn signal to alert the staff member on duty directing traffic that you are turning right.
- 6th/8th carline: All cars are asked to stay close to the curb in the bend near the split in the road so that the 8th grade cars have enough clearance to exit safely.
Late Arrivals
- Students arriving after 8am must sign in at the front office. A parent/guardian must accompany the student to the front door and ring bell for assistance.
Early Dismissals
- We understand that doctor/dental appointments and other appointments cannot be avoided. However, in order to protect the instructional time and limit class disruptions, no early dismissals will be allowed after 2:30pm. Students will not be called out of class early until the parent/guardian arrives to school. Any changes to your child's afternoon ride home must be shared with our office staff prior to 2:30pm.
Instructional Fees
- School fees are $40 (technology and instructional). There may be additional fees for encore classes. Those fees can be paid online, or your child can bring in to school and one of our staff members will receipt. Families may submit a request for waiver or reduction of fees form if they feel they cannot afford to pay these fees. This form is available through our bookkeeper, Ms. Campos.
Face Coverings
- Students, staff and visitors are required to wear face coverings in the building. No face coverings are required while outside. The BOE will revisit this decision at the 10/4 board work session. Face coverings must be worn from the top of the nose to the chin.
Student Medication
- All medication, prescription and/or over-the-counter drugs that parents want given at school must have a physician order accompanying the medication to school. The Request for Medication Administration in School Form (Spanish) must be filled out in its entirety, on one sheet of paper with the front page being the physician order, and the back, the parent authorization. Medication of any type must be brought to school by the parent/guardian in the original container with the Request form Medication Administration at School completed by the physician and the parent/guardian.
