Capturing Kids Hearts
You have likely heard your student(s) talk about the Capturing Kids Hearts program that we have implemented at Irving Elementary School. This amazing program outlines a process staff can use to help build meaningful relationships between staff and students, students and their peers, and between staff and families. The goal is to capture kids’ hearts in order to capture their minds. When students feel more connected to their school and staff, they achieve more academic success and are less likely to have attendance, tardy, or behavioral issues. Students thrive when they feel cared for and engaged. The Social Contract is the focal point of this program. A social contract is built in each classroom to establish guidelines and expectations for how students and teachers will treat each other. The social contract is designed to help students internalize and practice character traits and skills that they will use in the future. There are many components that go into the CKH process. Please contact your child’s teacher or the school to find out more about the program.

3rd Grade News
Third graders have been busy this month! In Reading class, they've read folk tales, historical fiction and poetry. In Math, they're working hard on 3-digit addition and subtraction and on the tough multiplication facts: 6s, 7s, 8s, and 9s.
They are also going to have a lot of fun activities involving the stories The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and The Polar Express.
Merry Christmas, everyone! Have a safe and happy holiday season!
