Spaghetti Dinner
Don't forget that the annual OES Spaghetti Dinner is next Tuesday from 6:00 - 8:00. Information will be sent home today in Rocket Folders. Also, we have not received anything yet for our basket for the silent auction! All the money made from the basket comes directly back to our classroom. Please consider donating an item or two. If you need ideas, please see the list on our classroom webpage. All items need to be turned in by Monday.
Valentine's Day Party
Next Friday, February 14th is our class Valentine's Day party! Last week I sent home a list with all of the student names so that each student could make sure to have a Valentine card for every member of our class. I also sent home a project that is REQUIRED for each student to do. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please ask me ASAP. I will not be of much help if you wait until the day before the project is due to ask questions! :) Finally, we need items for our class party. Again, if you have lost your list or forgotten, please see our class webpage for more info.
School is in session...
Last night at the Boone County Board Meeting, there were several changes made to the calendar. Students MUST report to school on Monday, February 17th, and Friday, April 18th. Originally students were supposed to be off those days, but because of all of the snow days recently, the board decided to use them as make-up days.
4H Speech
On Tuesday, Mr. Brown visited our class for the monthly 4H lesson. This month, he taught the students about giving speeches. He gave all of the students a packet on this topic. He also explained the expectations for when they give their own speech. All students are expected to write and give a speech on the topic of an Historical person. Speeches will be given on Monday, March 3rd. Students will also receive a grade for this based off of the judges scoring sheets and criteria.
In class...
Reading: We are finishing our unit on plot and will begin to learn how to summarize fiction.
Math: We are still trying to finish our unit on Algebra!! These snow days are really making this difficult! I expect to finish this unit next week and have the test on either Thursday or Friday. A study guide will be sent home next week, pending any more snow days.
Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about Colonial life and the economics of the colonies between themselves and England.
Writing: We will begin doing research on an historical person and using this info to write a biography. We are also going to double-dip with this and students can use the research for writing their speech.
