Principal's Prose
Greetings Pride,
I hope that each of you had a great weekend, as in my estimation the weather was absolutely perfect! However, as I am typing this edition of Principals Prose at 8:26 a.m. early Sunday morning, I completely realize that by noon, it may be 19 degrees and snowing.....after all, we do live in TEXAS! Sometimes we never know what's around the corner, but as Ms. Meylan poignantly said to me a few days ago, "We sometimes just have to go with the flow". Team, she nailed it. With that said, come rain, hail, sleet sunshine or snow, I hope that you all are making the most of your weekend and look forward to another GREAT week of opportunities at our dear Sudie!
Last week I had the opportunity to share in two really magical moments on our campus. As I wrapped up a meeting, I received word that Ms. Curtis, a former Sudie first grade teacher (and other grade levels too) was on campus visiting. Eager to say hello to her, I figured she would be interested in seeing her former students who are now second graders in Ms. Eriksen's and Mr. Gibson's class. My hypothesis proved to be correct. While getting caught up with her and all things happening in her new school district in east Texas, the students returned from specials, and to their surprise, there was their former teacher. As each rejoiced in seeing her, one particular student was filled with so much happiness she cried while wrapping her tightly in the longest, love filled hug you could ever imagine. It was beautiful to see, and I felt quite fortunate to be witness to this....love.
The second magic moment happened Friday morning during coffee with the principal. Though a smaller audience attended than what has become the norm for Sudie CWTP, the turn out opened up the airwaves for rich dialogue between everyone in attendance. One Pre K dad, who was mostly silent for the duration of the meeting shared with the group why he'd decided to enroll his daughter at Sudie. He revealed that he actually works for the district and while on assignment to repair our air conditioner last year, he loved what saw. The impression was so great that he went home and shared with his wife that Sudie would be the place for their daughter to start her education. As his hypothesis about Sudie has proven to be correct, he and his wife are both pleased with our special school. Again, magical and beautiful.
In closing, the magic shared in both stories has a common denominator: common people coming together to produce quite uncommon outcomes for others. The "magic" I speak of lies within our ability to make a great impact on those we serve, be it intentionally or consequently. Sometimes we don't know exactly what's to come, who's paying attention to us or the level of impact we can create through what we do. We just don't! But, maybe that's a good thing! Again, though what's "around the corner" is often a mystery, if we remain ready, willing and passionate with every step on this journey, we will greet what's to come KNOWING that our path WILL lead to success! And that Lions, is magical!
Make it a MAGICAL week Team,
MJ
