Courtney Wise sets a new girls basketball single game scoring record

Junior Courtney Wise had the game of her career Friday night while leading the Lady Indians to victory over the Lincoln Eagles 58 to 44 in a big TEC game. Courtney broke the single game scoring mark Friday night by scoring 39 points. Courtney was 17 of 20 from the field and added 5 free throws for her final total of 39 points. Courtney had a mixed range of shots by hitting several jump shots and finished well around the rim as well. Courtney also lead the team in rebounds along with Junior Baylee Hartman with 12 rebounds each.

Courtney's 39 points broke a nearly 30-year old record by Leigh Ann (Byrum) Barga for the most points in a single game. Leigh Ann set the record in the first game of her senior year by scoring 36 points against South Adams back in 1985. Leigh Ann is the head coach of the Lady Bears of Monroe Central and had coached Courtney this past AAU season. Leigh Ann was quoted saying that she was very happy for Courtney and proud of her accomplishment.
