Creating Community
Incorporating fun and humor into online learning
Creating online culture
Adult learners are self-directed, desire a safe and comfortable learning environment and are more diverse in their thinking that younger learners. As a requirement of AET/541, I have selected the following methods for incorporating fun into the online course thus making it more personable.
Social Media -PLC's on Facebook & LinkedIn
Professional Learning communities: is a group of educators that meets regularly, shares expertise, and works collaboratively to improve teaching skills and the academic performance of students (edglossary.org). People exchange ideas, experiences, knowledge of new things and welcome feedback and suggestions. Learners are encouraged to ask questions and share their knowledge with others in creative ways. Tactile learners will enjoy sharing processes and steps on how-to with their classmates.

Ice Breaker Activities
Ice breakers help to introduce people in the learning environment, and initiate participation from students. Icebreakers can be as creative as the people playing them and range from 2-minute activities to telling a funny story, to my personal favorite two truths and a lie. Two truths and a lie allows a person to come up with three convincing statements of which two are true and one is false but the group gets to vote on which is the lie. Auditory learners will enjoy listening to stories and hearing statements form their classmates and remember specific things about them.
