Curriculum Corner: Benchmark Inquiry Projects
Our staff is currently engaging in professional development with Ms. Kathryn Williams, Instructional Specialist MCPS Accelerated and Enriched Instruction regarding Benchmark Inquiry Projects.
There are four main tasks students need to complete in the inquiry project. The first task is to gather information about the topic of study. The second step is to decide on a product. Topic, purpose, and audience should heavily influence this decision as well as time and materials. Whenever possible, offering choice to the student(s) is best. Once the product is completed, it is shared with the class or other appropriate audiences. The final task is to have students reflect on the learning both in terms of the final product and the process. The chart below highlights these critical steps.
There are three inquiry projects for every Benchmark unit, which always includes one challenge project. The projects not only connect with the unit’s knowledge strand but also connect to social studies and Next Generation Science Standards.
VOLUNTEERS
Montgomery County Public Schools requires school volunteers and partnership agencies to complete certain compliance measures in order to volunteer within our school district.
- Online Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect Training via their myMCPS Classroom/Canvas account
- Background check (dependent upon the type of volunteer service, per the Volunteers regulation and FAQ)
