Trouble in Cuba
I don't think that all the stories they wrote were true. They tried to stretch the truth on things and make Spain look like they were monsters. They wanted people to think that they were bad people doing bad things just so they could gain their support. The way they covered these events mad Spain look like they were just killing innocent people. The re concentration was a place where General Valeriano Welyer put people to stop supporting the rebels. Many people died in the camps because there was little food and water.
The USS Maine and The De Lome Letter
Enrique Dupuy de Lome wrote a letter to one of his friends calling our president "weak and catering to the rabble and, besides, a low politician". American's anti-spain feeling s are stronger then ever now. De Lome offered his resignation but nothing could take back what he said already. We sent the USS Maine over to spain to make sure american interests were protected. But one night the ship got hit and started sinking, more then 260 men were killed in that explosion.
The Battles
I was there to witness some wars but one of the I got to see was the third battle of San Juan. The rough riders were also there. They did a wonderful job helping us win the war I don't think we could have done it without them. The San he un hill battles was one of the worst battles that we could have experienced.
