COVID UPDATE

I hope this email finds you safe and well. As we are returning to school for in-person instruction from our holiday break on Monday, January 3, 2022, we would like to inform you of our recently updated COVID-19 protocols for the Shelton Public School System.

In regards to COVID-19 Protocols: The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) has permitted school districts to adopt the recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated guidelines regarding quarantine, isolation, testing, and return to in-school activities. Effective January 3, 2022, the Shelton Public School system will follow these guidelines.

Symptomatic Individuals: Individuals, vaccinated or unvaccinated, who are even mildly symptomatic with any of the symptoms associated with COVID 19 should immediately isolate at home, test for the virus that causes COVID-19 with a PCR, antigen, or self-test, and remain away from activities outside of the home until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours and other symptoms have significantly improved.

Positive Individuals: Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 should isolate at home for at least 5 days, or longer if symptoms develop and persist. A mask should continue to be worn for an additional 5 days at all times when around others.

Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals: Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals who are notified that they have had a close contact with an individual who has confirmed or suspected COVID-19 should immediately quarantine at home and test for the virus 5 days after their last exposure to the COVID-19 case. This is especially important in situations where extended high-intensity exposure may have occurred, such as with household contacts, in unmasked social settings (e.g., sleepovers, parties), and/or during athletic activities.

These changes are designed to focus on the increased risk from individuals reporting for school related activities with active symptoms of illness and the decreased risk from individuals who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

IF YOU HAVE TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID ON OR AFTER 12/29/2021 DO NOT RETURN TO SCHOOL ON January 3, 2022.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO REPORT ALL CASES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Please report positive cases to your school nurse.

Positive individuals and household cases will be confirmed with NVHD.

Any updates or changes to the above will be communicated in a timely manner.

Message from Mrs. Yost

It's been an interesting four months trying to celebrate some of our past events that make Sunnyside the amazing community it's known for. Thank you to our PTO for creating a safe and family-filled night to visit Mr. & Mrs. Claus. The excitement was magical! A huge thank you to Miss Knowles for her dedication and hard work organizing and accompanying her first concert (virtual at that!) at Sunnyside! The songs, dances and décor were wonderful!

I would like to wish our Sunnyside families a very healthy and prosperous New Year. I hope you found time to relax and wind down. With every New Year, we reflect upon our previous accomplishments and set goals for the future year. We are excited to see what 2022 has in store for our Tigers!

We will begin our NWEA winter assessments in reading and math on January 10, 2022 through January 14, 2022. This data will be beneficial in setting new academic goals to meet the needs of our students. We appreciate the continued support.

Remember that masks are required in schools. Feel free to pack extra masks in your child's backpack to change out during the day or if they break.

Sunnyside Strong,

Mrs. Yost

Thank you to our PTO and volunteers for making our "Santa Drive Thru" so magical!
