OUR STORY - Shout Outs!
WCS Weekly Highlights - Feb. 11-15, 2019
Celebrating the 100th Day of School
WCS celebrated the 100th Day of School for the 2018-2019 school year on Mon., Feb. 11. At Jones ES, the kindergarten- through second-grade classes decorated the walls with the 100 reasons why they love their school and grade level. Their teachers also wore powerful shirts proclaiming how much they love the students who have been in their classes for the past 100 days!

True to Self
Shout Out! to Matt Mercer from Dong's Martial Arts for visiting the kindergartners at New Hope ES last week to talk with them about the importance of self discipline. He also showed them basic martial arts maneuvers. Kudos to New Hope Counselor Ellen Bergland (and all of our counselors!) for helping students model good character and for lining up Mr. Mercer as a speaker.
Cubs Compete
On February 2, five students from Gardners ES represented WCS and their school at the NC Science & Engineering Fair at Hillside HS in Durham. They did a great job competing against students from across the central region. Congrats to Elijah, Donovan, Emilio, Winston and Katie! And special thanks to Instructional Coach Ginger Garrou for leading them.
Love for Drivers
Beddingfield HS staff members, students and the Baby Bruins in the daycare program have been showing LOVE to their bus drivers this week with gifts and surprises each day! We appreciate all that our bus drivers do for our students - which is much more than just transporting them to and from school safely each day. Our drivers encourage and support our students.
More Shout Outs!
- Jones ES Principal Liz Jenkins and Assistant Principal Brittany Dublin would like to Shout Out! their Beginning Teachers (BTs)! These teachers are in the first three years of their careers, and they are all excelling in student engagement, mastering their content, creating a culture of collaboration among students and working diligently to help students foster a love for learning. Pictured right.
- From Lucama ES Kindergarten Teacher Leigh Anna Simpson: "I’d like to Shout Out! Alice Mitchell, a retired Lucama reading teacher, for working with our students on their reading and phonics skills. She is very thorough and always on time. I am so thankful for all of her hard work and the confidence boost she is giving my kids! My students enjoy leaving for their special reading time with her."
