A reminder, if you want to look back at previous emails you just click the title above, 20-21 A Mavnificent Year! It is a hyperlink to our archived e-News on our school webpage.

Hard to believe the first semester has almost come to a close.

A reminder that next Friday, December 18 we have early dismissal and school ends at 12:00 noon.

Please be sure to read about our Sock Drive! Let's make a difference for the better for so many.

You can also support Mathews with our upcoming PTA Spirit nights. Take a break from cooking!

We need your help to keep our students safe when leaving school. Please read the Dismissal Pick Up Concern directly below. We appreciate your understanding and support.

We need your help.

Parking lots can be dangerous. It is so easy to not see a child as you are pulling out of a parking spot, whether it is in the staff parking lot or the parking lot closest to the city park adjoining our school. Trying to save a few seconds or convenience can end in a lifetime of anguish.

As we share a parking lot with the city park, we can not block access. We have to rely on

1) Our parents not using the parking lot

2) Training our students to not go into the parking lot without an adult.

A safe alternative is to park on Marcedonia which runs parallel with Caravan Drive. There is a sidewalk from the school to the street. Children can get in their cars without crossing the street or walking through a parking lot.

Our carpool line moves swiftly. With only 60% of our students participating in Face to Face learning, we do not have delays in our carpool pick up. However, when parents use the parking lot they then have to cut through the families in the carpool line to exit the property.

We request you use the carpool line as it is intended to be used.

Students will not be permitted to walk out to a parking lot to meet their parents in a parked car.

Mathews Student Council is collecting new warm socks for all ages/all sizes to send to children living in extreme poverty in Romania, Moldova, and Guatemala.

Donations will also support local women’s shelters, homeless shelters, and orphanages in the DFW area.

GOAL: 1200 pairs of socks!

To celebrate meeting our goal we will have a CRAZY SOCK DAY!

We START learning at 7:40

What does 'Arrive in Time' actually mean?

It means our children arrive to school in time to be in the chairs, unpacked and ready for a great day of learning when the bell rings at 7:40.

If your child arrives on campus at 7:40 they will start their day behind.

We know arriving for work with a few minutes to spare makes all the difference in how our day begins.

With 60% of our students attending school Face to Face we are fortunate that getting to school and through our carpool line has never been easier!

However, we have several students arriving late. We need your help.

In the state of Texas tardies are considered a partial unexcused absence.

Often times students are late within 5-10 minutes of the start time.

Please remember that we begin instruction/learning at 7:40. We encourage you drop off your child or if your child is a walker that they leave home in time to arrive no later than 7:30.

Your child needs time to unpack their belongings and get ready for the morning. Walking in after 7:40 can be awkward for our children as they hurry to catch up. Not the ideal way to start their morning.

Thank you for setting your alarm clock a little earlier in order for your child to arrive to school no later than 7:30 . This allows them the time they need to be ready and at their best when the instruction begins at 7:40 a.m.

With colder weather we encourage students to have their jackets, hats, gloves, masks and backpacks at the door ready to go each morning. This often times helps avoid leaving home late in search of a missing glove.

And if you are running a little behind keep in mind the school opens at 7:00 a.m. and we have free breakfast served until 7:25 in the cafeteria with social distancing in place for our children.
