Message from Dr. Ramirez
Hello CRHS Learning Community,
I hope you are having a great Valentine's Day. Our annual Valentine's Day celebration includes a homemade cheesy Fondue Dinner! (And a marbleized, juicy steak for me. )
Reopening schools is presently a national topic. On February 9th, the NC Senate approved Senate Bill 37, which will require schools to provide in-person instruction within 15 days of the bill being signed into law by Governor Cooper.
On Friday, February 12th, the OCS Board voted to begin in-person instruction on what I call a "slow roll out", with 100% of Plan B in place on Monday, March 8th. We, in short, are opening a month earlier than planned.
In the slides below, you will see:
1. Number of students who plan on returning under Plan B. We have about 500 students returning to our school, or nearly 50%. These numbers may change. If you would like to know what group you are in or wish to make a change, email donna.ray@orange.k12.nc.us.
2. Revised Plan B Hybrid Schedule- This schedule was approved on Friday. As you can see, we start with 9th grade students and begin 100% of the schedule on March 8.
We are updating our new class time schedule. We will shift to the Plan B schedule beginning Monday, February 23. We will be on our present schedule until this Friday.
What are the changes, and why?
1. The student day will be from 11:00 to 4:00, Monday through Thursdays. The Friday schedule is still in discussion. Breakfast will be served as soon as 10:30.
2. I will post the new schedule after getting input from teachers and staff. Presently, Plan B calls for 55 minute classes. We are still determining club times, Ridge Time, and Office Hours.
3. Lunch- We are working on our lunch schedule to accommodate the mandated eating requirements. Students will not be allowed to eat and talk at the same time to contain air born germs. Also, we are planning to have as many students as we can eat outside, as safely as possible.
4. . Teachers will decide how to design their classes when one group is remote. They may hold both groups (A & B) classes simultaneously or assign asynchronous work for the remote group. Your teachers will inform students of their teaching formats before we begin this new schedule on Wednesday, February 24.
5. Why these changes? The student day is determined by our transportation department's required cleaning of school busses after each run. 11:00 a.m. is the earliest start time possible for Cedar Ridge High School based on this necessity.
Monday, February 22 will be an asynchronous day. Staff will be trained, in-vivo, on the safety protocols under Plan B.
We are excited to begin Plan B! As always, we appreciate your patience, understanding, and commitment to making our plan work for all. Please feel free to reach out to any one us. We are here to serve!
With appreciation,
Dr. Ramirez

Seniors!!! Hope all is moving right along. Remember to continue to check your emails because all information will be sent more frequently as your ultimate high school goal gets closer....GRADUATION 2021!! Counselors will be uploading mid-year transcripts to Common App through the month of February. They are aware of all deadlines that are posted in Common App. If there is a college that contacted them directly last fall to request your transcript, they will need to contact them for your mid-year. If your college does not accept electronic copies students may order a free transcript from scriborder and request it be sent directly to the school of choice. We do not provide official transcripts directly to students.
Seniors can sign up to swap out their old devices for new Chromebooks. More info here.
Remember to enjoy this time as much as you can!!!

Mayores !!!
