Quizizz

Quizizz is very similar to Kahoot, except the questions appear on the students' devices.
Let's try it out!

  • On your device or laptop, open quizizz.com.
  • Click Join a Game.
  • Enter the Game Code the teacher provides and click Go.
  • Type in your name and click Join Game.
  • Wait for the teacher to begin the game.

WOW - Quizizz now has math symbols!

Quizizz App

Quizizz has a new feature that allows the question and answer choices to be read aloud using the Quizizz IOS app or the Google Play Quizizz app. Only available for IOS devices. Great for word problems!

Gimkit

Gimkit was created by high school students and is similar to Kahoot! and Quizizz, except the students play for “money” instead of points. The free version allows you to have 5 Kits (games) in your account. The paid version allows for unlimited Kits and edits and includes other features. The Pro version is $59.88 a year or $7.99 per month. School and bulk discounts are available.

Gimkit includes a library of Kits from users. You can create your own Kit by typing in the questions and answers or you can upload questions from Quizlet or a CSV file.

Quizlet Live

Quizlet has created a new program that turns your flashcards into a live, multi-player, review game.
Let's give it try!
  • Open quizlet.live.
  • Type in the code the teacher has given you.
  • Type in your name.
  • Quizlet Live will assign you a team. Find your teammates and get together.
  • Wait for the teacher to begin the game.

Create online bingo games on Bingo Baker! You can use the free version or for $14.95 for a lifetime, all of your games will be stored in your own account.

Here is an example Bingo Game to use with simple math problems:

Open bingobaker.com/play/109406 on your device.
Click the Free space.
Click the answers to the problems as they are called out.
Shout Bingo if you win!


Hint - For problems that use mathematical symbols, create a PowerPoint with your problems. As you flip through the presentation, students can work out the problems on their paper and then find the answer on the Bingo Baker card.

Socrative

Socrative is an online student assessment tool that works on any Internet-connected device. The site includes the ability to administer a quiz, play a game or give an Exit Ticket.

Go to socrative.com.
The room number is football.
Wait for the teacher to start the quiz!

To take a poll using Socrative:
  1. Login to your teacher account.
  2. Have students log in to your room.
  3. Select Quick Question.
  4. Select Short Answer.
  5. Type in your question and select options under Number of Responses Per Student and Student Name.
  6. Select Start.
  7. Click Start Vote and Confirm.
  8. Students then select their choice from all of the options that have been submitted by their classmates.
  9. Click Finish to access reports and charts.

Socrative also has an App for most devices!

edpuzzle

edpuzzle allows you to import any instructional video into your account, trimming it to show only the portion you need. You can then embed questions to hold your students accountable during the video. Student progress is recorded for you to monitor or use as assessment grades.

Plickers

Don't have enough devices for all students? Then Plickers might be the tool for you!
You only need the Plickers app downloaded on one IOS or Android device to scan the student responses. Let's try it out!

FlipQuiz

Flipquiz is a Jeopardy-style game that is great for reviewing information. Divide your class into two teams and start playing! Flipquiz is ideal for interactive whiteboards, but it will work with a computer and a projector.

ThingLink is a free, web-based tool and app that allows the user to upload an image and create interactive links to text, music, video, sound and weblinks.

Math Teachers - This is AWESOME! Desmos is a free, online graphing calculator. Desmos can plot a variety of different equations, from lines to parabolas and more. It is available online and as an app.

Flipgrid

Flipgrid is a video response tool that is used to create discussions among all students within your classroom. Teachers post a topic or question via text or video and the students respond to the prompt. Flipgrid also gives students the ability to comment on their classmates' responses.

  • You can Freeze a Topic to continue sharing the videos but prevent new recordings.

GeoGebra is dynamic mathematics software for all levels of education that brings together geometry, algebra, spreadsheets, graphing, statistics and calculus. GeoGebra works on desktops, laptops, Chromebooks and most mobile devices. Click here to access the download site.

The Math Keyboard App

Do you need to use math symbols on your phone or iPad? The Math Keyboard App by Daniel Soffer is a free tool that provides you with mathematical and scientific characters. After downloading the app, follow the step-by-step directions for installing the keyboard on your device.

FormMule

FormMule is a Google Add-On that allows you to create forms that will automatically notify parents of missing assignments, tutorial attendance, discipline warnings, etc. These three videos show you how to easily setup Form Mule. Thanks to Tom Horn from Medlin Middle School in Northwest ISD (Texas) for sharing!


Let's try it out! Click here to access the form. Use your email address for the parent/guardian address and make up a missing assignment name. Once you click submit, check your email to see what a parent would receive.

Padlet

Padlet is a virtual wall/bulletin board that allows students to create a sticky note to express their thoughts on a common topic. Padlet allows us to post text, links, images, and a wide variety of files including video.


Note: Padlet recently began charging $99 a year for unlimited Walls. The free account allows new users to have free accounts. If you already have Walls in your account, you may add 3 more Walls for free.
