ID Badges
ALL students must be wearing their ID and it should be visible at all times. Whether it be their school ID on a lanyard OR a temporary ID (sticker) badge, it MUST be worn.
If a student has lost their ID Badge, please replace it in the front office (it does cost money to replace an ID Badge).
If a student has forgotten their ID Badge, the consequence is last in line at lunch and no Snack Bar.
NEW
Students will be charged for an extensive number of temporary badges! Please be sure to use and wear your issued ID Badge.
Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones are SHUT DOWN and PUT AWAY from 7:30a - 2:20p
- Student are expected to follow EPS expectations for cell phone use.
- There is a progressive plan if students are using their cell phone during the school day.
- If cell phone usage becomes habitual, it can lead to a parent picking up their cell phone in the Front Office.
Science
Hello Thunderhawks!
This week in science, students finished their Penguin Project displaying their understanding of the transfer of thermal energy. When we come back from Fall Break, students will begin a short unit on the Water Cycle then move on to Weather!
English
Hello Thunderhawks!
We have made it to the Fall Break! This week we completed our Flight 93 unit by creating a “student choice” project. Each student was able to choose how they wanted to show their learning through a specific mode (written, digital, or visual). Each project was focused on using the primary sources that we have been evaluating to make inferences and draw conclusions in telling the story of United Flight 93. When we return from the break, we will continue with our “Decisions that Matter” unit.

Literacy
It’s presentation week! Upon our return from Fall Break, students will spend Tuesday checking over the slides they have created using a rubric to fine tune any last detail to earn every point possible. Wednesday and Thursday (Britton and Pollard) and Wednesday and Friday (Winfrey) will be student presentations. ON day one of presentations, half the class will be “sellers” and set up “shop” and the other half will be “buyers” and will rotate to each store to hear about the books classmates have read. The following day, roles will reverse with the previous day’s “buyers” will be “sellers.” It is the highlight of the semester and a real blast to watch students share about reading!

This week we started multiplying and dividing decimals. We will continue Unit 3 after we return from Fall Break.
Need Help in Math? Here’s what you can do:
Come see your math teacher during pre-advisory (7:10-7:40)
Come do a working lunch. (There is always 1 math teacher available during that time to offer help).
6th Grade IA Pre-Algebra
This week we started Unit 3 on Ratios & Rates. We investigated ratios and unit rates in which the quantities being compared are expressed as fractions rather than whole numbers. We will continue this unit next week after we come back from Fall Break!

Geography
Welcome back from Fall Break ThunderHawk Families! We hope you enjoyed a few days of school. A huge thank you to all families who attended Parent/Teacher Conferences. We loved getting to meet all of you and discuss the best path to success for your student. This week students will be reviewing some of their types of government knowledge, as well as looking more into how an economy works. On November 11th, Heartland will be hosting grade level assemblies to celebrate Veterans’ Day. If you have any family members who are Veterans and feel comfortable doing so, please email your child’s Social Studies teacher a picture of your Veteran. Please include some information about their service time, if you are comfortable with that. This picture/info will be shown in the 6th Grade Veteran Assembly. As always, please reach out if you have any questions
