GVES Weekly Announcements
April 17, 2020
Principals' Message
Happy Friday GVES families!
As Spring continues to blossom around us, so do our students in an online learning environment. We heard students practicing instruments, giving feedback to one another on Zoom, and teachers and kids laughing together. We saw super cool aquatic animal drawings, ‘amazing science’ projects, and smiles on faces. We felt the connection between home and school through posts, photos, and ‘socially distanced’ encounters! Again, just another testament to the community we’ve chosen to grow our kids. As we move into the next several weeks we will begin reaching out about end of year plans and events. We will also begin the process of planning for the 2020-2021 school year. Each year we utilize a comprehensive placement process to consider the whole child. We weigh student achievement, observation, and social/emotional data to help us place each student into next year’s classes. We thank you in advance for your confidence in our process!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Jones & Mrs. Conley

Garnet Valley CTC Quick Tip #31 Homeschooling Tips
Did you know? As of this week, at least 124,000 public schools in 48 states
and in every US territory have been closed due to Covid-19 according to the
NCSL.
https://www.ncsl.org/research/education/public-education-response-to-
coronavirus-covid-19.aspx
Call to action…You are not alone, but that does not make this change in our
lives any easier. Homeschooling veterans suggest the following practices:1. A
routine or schedule tailored to each child in your home, 2. Remember that you
are in charge and not alone – let your child’s instructional team know what your
child needs and what has helped them, 3. Get organized- a bag or other storage
item to keep each child’s books, pencils, etc., will save time, use a timer for
shared items, 4. Make sure to get everyone outside with social distancing at least
30 minutes a day, 5. Reading time is helpful and you can also read aloud to your
child – your voice and words will fill their minds with something besides the latest
virus statistics and will help to keep imaginations focused on positive things, 6.
Set out simple art and music supplies - expression of feelings doesn’t always
happen verbally, 7. Set screen time limits for phones, tablets, TVs, lap tops, etc.
that are realistic and age appropriate, 8. Give yourself some down time – if you
are calm, they will be too! Check out the links below and find your family’s unique
path through this pandemic. We will get through this together.
