National Library Week April 13th to April 17th

National Library Week Overview

Memorial School will be celebrating National Library Week during the week of April 13th. Students and staff are encouraged to dress according to our daily themes. We also have a guest author, Diane deGroat, coming to talk with our students and we will be having a few contests as well (see details below).

This week is a great way to make children aware of the fact that libraries have so much more than just books to offer! Libraries also have magazines, books on tape, videos, video games, ereaders, ebooks and so much more! You can celebrate National Library Week by visiting the Upton Town Library, getting a library card for the first time and/or by visiting a new library! And of course you can always celebrate by READING!!

Daily Themes

  • Monday, April 13th - Mixed Up Day
  • Tuesday, April 14th - Crazy Hair Day
  • Wednesday, April 15th - Beach Day
  • Thursday, April 16th - Crazy Hat Day
  • Friday, April 17th - Sports Day

The classrooms that have 100% participation will be entered into a raffle to win a day of using the Nook Colors in their classroom!

Diane deGroat is Visiting Memorial School On Wednesday April 15th!!

To learn more about Diane deGroat and to see her books, you can visit her website at http://www.dianedegroat.com. If you would like have Diane deGroat sign one of her books that either you already own, or that you purchase at a book store, please send the book in with a post-it and who you would like the book addressed to and Diane would be more than happy to sign them the day of her visit:)

Would You Like to be the Librarian for One of Your Library Classes?

Students will have a chance to be the librarian for one of their library classes in the month of May! Between now and Thursday April 16th, if your child is found reading at home, you can enter his/her name into a drawing to be the librarian during one of their library classes in May! The more they are found reading, the more chances they will have to be the librarian for their class! Click Here for the forms!

Bookmark Contest!

Students are invited to create a bookmark about their favorite book or a bookmark about reading! One student from each grade will be chosen and their bookmarks will be printed out for one week and distributed to all students at Memorial School. Please download the attached bookmark template. All entries must be returned to the Memorial School Library by Wednesday, April 15th! Click Here for the form!
