Mask Ordinance Extended

The Kansas City, Missouri, City Council has extended the mask ordinance for students, faculty, staff, and visitors while inside of school buildings.

The ordinance is extended through February 17, 2022.

If you have questions and/or concerns with regard to this ordinance, please contact the Kansas City Mayor's office and/or City Council members.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families BINGO Challenge

Starting Tuesday, February 1st and throughout the month of February we are challenging our Pathfinder families to a 7 Habits Bingo Challenge. Every student will be bringing home a bingo card that lists out a variety of family challenges that are related to our Leader In Me 7 Habits. We are excited to share the 7 Habits with your family through a set of optional activities. Complete five in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row. Once you have completed your bingo card, send it back with your child and we will enter your child's name into a drawing for one of our four themed prize baskets.

Pathfinder Student Leadership Showcase / February 9th

Your child's teacher will send out a sign up on January 14th for families to select a time for our Spring Student Leadership Showcase on February 9th. Don't forget to bring your student with you as they will be the ones leading their showcase! Our showcase will be from 4:30 to 7:30, and all families will be asked to sign up for a designated time.

Pirates ROCK "Character Warms the Heart" Week

February 14-18 is our Pirates ROCK "Character Warms the Heart" week, when we warm up with our good character and great leadership with fun spirit week activities and collect items for our Treasure Chest resource center to help PCR-3 families in need. We're collecting shampoo & conditioner, body wash, deodorant, and cereal this year. Participate in our spirit days and send in any donations to our schools! Reminder: Friday, February 18 there is no school for our District Inservice Day, a great day to send a nice note to a friend or staff member. See flier for details on our spirit days and come cheer on our Pirates at the Home Basketball games on February 15!

Pathfinder PTA Friendship Parties (February 14th)

We will be celebrating our Friendship Parties on Monday, February 14th at Pathfinder Elementary. Friendship Parties will take place in the gym and PTA is asking for volunteers for this event. On February 14th only, we are allowing students to bring in valentines and individually-wrapped treats to distribute to their classmates, though parents will not be permitted down to classrooms for this portion of the day.

Pathfinder PTA is also looking for snack donations for the Friendship Parties on February 14th. Donations need to be sent into the school by Monday, February 7th so we have time to gather any snack items not donated. Feel free to sign up for Oreos (regular flavor, family pack size) or Capri Suns (Wild Cherry Flavor). Cash donations will also be accepted and can be sent to school in an envelope.

Summer School 2022 - Registration Coming In March

Hard to believe now, but summer will be here before we know it! K-12 Summer School will be scheduled for June 1-28, 2022 at the following locations.

  • Pathfinder: K-5 (Pathfinder Attendance Area)

  • Barry: 6-8 (Barry Attendance Area)

  • Compass: K-5 (Siegrist and Compass Attendance Area)

  • PCMS: 6-8 (PCMS Attendance Area)

  • PCHS (Paxton Center): 9-12

  • Great Beginnings: Pre-K

Be looking for Summer School enrollment paperwork (including online enrollment for current PCR-3 K-7th grade students) that will be distributed and due in March.

Substitutes Needed

WE ARE IN NEED OF SUBSTITUTES! If you or you know of someone who may want to substitute in our schools please apply using the below link.

  • Applicants will need to have at least 60 college credit hours
  • Provide transcripts, and complete a background check.
  • There will be an onboarding plan to help answer any questions you have regarding the substitution process.
  • Substitutes are able to choose if they want to substitute for elementary, middle, or at the high school level. You are also able to pick the number of days that you may be available to substitute. Substitute
  • Teacher pay is $105.00 a day or $14.00 an hour. A full day for a Substitute Teacher is 7.5 hours a day. If a Substitute Teacher works 6.5 hours a day they are paid the full $105.00. If a Substitute works less than 6.5 hours a day, they are paid hourly.

Y - Club Youth Leaders Needed

Pathfinder offers before and after school child care provided by the YMCA. Like many businesses recently they are also in need of workers.

Requirements for the job include:

  • Minimum age of 18
  • Previous experience working with school age children (may include working as a babysitter, nanny or other childcare program)
  • Commitment to provide quality youth development services at all levels
  • Demonstrated public relations and leadership skills in working with program parents, school personnel, children and co-workers
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment
  • Have a general understanding of computer technology

Inclement Weather Information

Click here for information on school cancellations/modifications due to inclement weather, how the District will notify parents, as well as information on recess, Y Club, and Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days. For the 2021-22 school year, PCR-3 will implement traditional inclement weather days (no school and no virtual learning), until we reach a threshold that would push the school year past Memorial Day. We will make those days up per our academic calendar, and if we go past four inclement weather days, we will implement our Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days.

COVID-19 Health, Safety, and Mitigation Strategies

In December, the Board of Education approved the District’s latest version of the School Opening Plan, outlining a shift from universal masking to masks being recommended in school buildings. Static seating charts, physical distancing to the extent possible, and masking on buses per federal order are still in place. Contact tracing procedures have shifted to the local health departments of Platte County Health Department or Kansas City Health Department on COVID-19-related matters.

Families, students and staff are expected to continue to report suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 to Dr. Jen Beutel, beutelj@platteco.k12.mo.us or 816.858.5420 ext. 2199. The Centers for Disease Control issued new guidance for individuals positive for COVID-19, changing isolation to five days from symptom onset, provided symptoms are resolving and the individual is fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications. The CDC recommends masking for an additional five days.

PRC-3 Treasure Chest (District Resource Center)

The Treasure Chest is our school district resource center. It is a stocked pantry providing food, clothing, toiletries, and other household supplies. All items in the Treasure Chest are free to PCR-3 students and families who participate in the Free or Reduced School Lunch Program. The Treasure Chest is open for shopping every week of the calendar year on Wednesday evenings from 4pm-6pm. Families must register at the following link or call 816.858.7001 weekly so we can appropriately plan for resources. Once approved, families can drive through at the original Treasure Chest site (in the north parking lot of PCHS). Identification must be provided in order to receive food.

Text Notifications

The District uses text messaging and automated phone calls to notify parents of upcoming events and days off, school closings due to weather, and during emergency situations. Newly enrolled families will automatically receive an opt-in message from 67587. If you missed it, simply text “Yes” to 67587 to receive text messages.

Pathfinder Resource Checklist

Hello Pirate Families! At the beginning and middle of each school year, we ask parents and guardians to fill out our Resource Checklist on paper. This year we are asking you to complete the Resource Checklist electronically using this form. This brief questionnaire is your School Social Worker's first and primary way to help you access support services. It also lets us know if you are interested in giving back to your school community. Please do not hesitate to contact your School Social Worker if you have any questions.
