The Mustang Minute

Coming Events
Feb 25- March 4th is Read Across America Week. We have a fun week of reading related activities and exciting spirit days. Scroll down until you see The Cat in the Hat for each day's spirit gear. With Friday being PJ day, I am hoping that every student can bring in ONE pair of PJs to support our Cradles to Crayon PJ drive, while getting to slouch around school in comfort ourselves!
Tuesday, March 5th is our second Annual Wellness Night. Our Wellness team will be at CMS showing us all how to keep active and healthy as we head into spring. There will be sports activities, complimentary healthy snacks (thanks to Wegman's for sponsoring us for a second year) and a presentation on a hot topic for teen health. This event is free and open to all NPS students and families!
Thursday, March 7th is Foreign Language Night at NHS. We will be celebrating foreign language at CMS all week and the culminating event is Thursday at the High School. The food is incredible and the music amazing! It's the best meal you will get in Norwood on Thursday Night!
Wednesday, March 13th: Andrea Speaks. Local author and public speaker Andrea Cullen will share with parents how to identify predators and protect our children. The location is still being finalized between CMS and NHS the time is 6:30-8:00
Friday, March 22nd is the Grade 8 Game Night. Grade 8 students can come play games and have a fun night with their peers at CMS. It runs from 6:30-9:00pm. This is a great event for our 8th grade students and all funds raised go to support grade 8 activities.
Thursday, March 28th is the DC Mandatory Parent Meeting. We will go over expectations, packing, trip details. You can meet the chaperones and get all questions answered. We also have parents complete all paperwork on this night - come prepared with a copy of your health insurance card to help us speed through!
Finally, I have linked two surveys (sorry - I know it's been a heavy survey month) below. The first is a follow up parent survey connected to the social media and health survey our students took last week. The second is about potential elective choices at CMS next year. We surveyed the students earlier this month and would love some parent input as well. The elective survey should take no more than 2-3 minutes.

Celebrating Black History Month at CMS
Over the past week, grade 8 students have investigated the Civil War Amendments, the Compromise of 1877 and its aftermath, and a timeline of the Civil Rights movement from the 1940s to the 1960s. Ending today with students breaking down how African American citizens pushed for civil rights and how our different levels of government worked (or didn't) to resolve the injustices in our country.
After break, grade 8 students will research at least three prominent African Americans that contributed to our country's history. The kids will also research an event that was important for African American history.
6th and 7th grade students are researching famous African Americans for presentations during Mustang Challenge classes. They will complete this work after the break.

Chromebook Tips Update
- Remind students that NOTHING should be stored inside their Chromebook case (except their Chromebook) when they close it with other items inside, it cracks the screen.
- Try to keep the battery level above 10% dropping below can cause a hard shut down which can be difficult to restart and recharge.
- Bring those earbuds!
- Charge EVERY night!
