East Elementary: Team East News
Staff Newsletter for 2016-2017, Episode 3
We are TEAM EAST!
October is here and Fall is in the air! We have already experienced many successes together and also had a little fun along the way. We are amazed by the progress we've seen with some of our students and by your ability to adapt to meet their needs. I know it is taxing at times but you are making such a difference in the lives of our students. Rita Pierson is quoted as saying, "Every child deserves a champion -- an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be." Thank you for being a champion for your students!
I cannot conclude this note without telling you once again what a blessing it is to get to serve beside each of you. I pray we can do this work together for a very long time. So, care for yourselves, your families, and each other well so that we can look forward to serving our families here at East for years to come. We love you all and look forward to the coming weeks!

CHAMPS Expectations and Celebrations
CHAMPS - Beginning Week 7
We are continuing to see students exhibit evidence of the foundation you have built with our CHAMPS expectations. Consistency is the key. Please make sure you are continuing to uphold these expectations. Hallway behavior continues to be the one area where I see inconsistency from classroom to classroom. Ashley and I will continue to be intentional about praising behaviors we see both in and out of the classroom and reminding students who have forgotten.
Also, please remember - If a student's behavior escalates to the point of you needing an administrator to be involved, please contact the office and allow us to come to you or to our designated behavior area.
Second and Third Grade students have submitted their ideas for the CHAMPS rewards and Ashley is working to build a ballot for the entire school to vote. We plan to vote on Tuesday, October 11th. Mrs. Orren and Mrs. McKinney are working to set up voting booths for our students so that we can schedule and allow students to have a "mock" voting experience similar to the Presidential Election. This will be a wonderful opportunity to discuss the voting process with our students and to experience our own election day. We will announce the winners for each nine weeks on Friday, October 14th.
